There was nothing to eat in the kitchen, so they needed to cook something now.
Mrs. Shen scooped out half a bowl of coarse rice, planning to make some porridge for Su Xiaobao and Su Ningxiu to eat. Feeling that the coarse rice porridge was not nutritious enough, Mrs. Shen bit her lip and took out the two eggs she had frugally saved up, intending to make two additional bowls of steamed eggs to nourish Su Ningxiu and the others.
While Mrs. Shen was cooking in the kitchen, Su Yunjin was in the room checking on the injuries on Su Ningxiu and Su Xiaobao’s hands. Su Ningxiu’s arms and neck had bruises from being bound by Mrs. Tao, and Su Xiaobao was the same. Moreover, it seemed Su Xiaobao had more bruises than Su Ningxiu.
Su Yunjin looked at the bruises on Su Ningxiu and Su Xiaobao and said, “Second sister, don’t you think Xiaobao and you should apply some medicine on those bruises?”
Unconsciously, Su Yunjin thought of the box of ointment Mrs. Chu had given Gu Ya last time, the box of ointment she had given her still had more than half left.
The swelling on Gu Ya’s shoulder had almost subsided, and he wouldn’t be able to use up the ointment Mrs. Chu had given her. It could be used to treat Su Ningxiu and Su Xiaobao’s bruises.

If she found some, she would take it back and apply the herbal medicine to Su Ningxiu and Su Xiaobao. By then, the results would be the same as applying the ointment.
“Ningxiu, Xiaobao, your auntie has brought you some food!” Said Mrs. Shen cheerfully, holding a bowl of white rice porridge as she walked in from outside.
Following Mrs. Shen was Su Yunjin’s aunt Su Xiang’e, “Yunjin, hurry up and help Xiaobao sit up. Let’s feed him this half bowl of porridge.”
Su Yunjin looked at her mother and aunt with surprise, seeing each of them holding half a bowl of porridge and asked, puzzled, “Aunt, mother, where did this porridge come from?”
“Yunjin, your aunt exchanged a raw egg for the porridge with our neighbor Hong Dashu.” Su Xiang’e knew that Su Yunjin’s family had gone to rescue Su Ningxiu, aware that being locked up for so long, Su Ningxiu must be starving. Su Xiang’e did not follow them but went to the village to get white rice porridge for Su Ningxiu instead.

Originally, Su Xiang’e had exchanged the bowl of porridge for Su Ningxiu, but hearing that Su Xiaobao had also been locked up, she discussed with Mrs. Shen, her sister-in-law, to split a bowl into two so that Su Ningxiu and Su Xiaobao could each have half a bowl.
Both Su Xiaobao and Su Ningxiu were indeed hungry. They shared the bowl of porridge, and in less than a moment, they both had finished their half bowls of porridge, leaving not a single grain of rice.
Being hungry for so long, that half bowl of white rice porridge was hardly enough. Back in the kitchen, Mrs. Shen had also made steamed eggs for Su Xiaobao and Su Ningxiu. After they finished the porridge, Mrs. Shen looked at Su Yunjin and said, “Yunjin, could you check in the kitchen to see if the steamed eggs for your second sister and Xiaobao are ready?”
Su Yunjin nodded and had just stepped outside when she saw a familiar figure in the courtyard.
