When the two were buying tickets, Little Taotie and Hua Jinyan were examining the masks on the wall, with Little Taotie standing in front of a red Ghost Face Mask, his big eyes unwilling to look away.
Hua Jinyan bypassed Xiangxiang and Mo Haihao at the ticket counter and asked, "Is the red mask for sale?"
Attendant: "It is, but it’s a bit pricey!"
"Can I pay with a card?"
Hua Jinyan took out a low-key finance card, which was quite eye-catching, though not a Black Card, but the salesperson was knowledgeable and knew this blue card could be obtained only with a deposit of a million.
This was indeed a blue card.
He sighed inwardly, "It’s tough being a worker, nowhere near what kids get for pocket money, New Year’s money!"
"The card has been swiped, please verify the bill and sign."
Hua Jinyan nodded and signed his name.
By the time Xiangxiang and Mo Haihao finished their chat, both Little Taotie and Hua Jinyan were already wearing a mask each.
Little Taotie’s mask was a red Ghost Face, with wide-open eyes with two soybean-sized holes on the whites, which were painted with red blood vessels. The Ghost Face had an open mouth showing long, sharp teeth, like glued-on fangs, and also had two goat horns.
Xiangxiang jumped in fright, "Goodness, you scared me!"
From behind the mask, Little Taotie’s mischievous giggling could be heard.
Hua Jinyan’s black mask depicted a ghost face with closed eyes and no expression. It wasn’t grotesque but the entire face was covered with bloody scars, which made it ghastly enough.
"Did you guys just take these down from the wall?" Xiangxiang asked. "Can you just wear them ?"
Before Xiangxiang could reach out and take a mask down herself, the salesperson said, "1,000 per mask."
Xiangxiang jerked her hand back, as if she had nearly touched a germ, her eyes wide with shock, "Isn’t this too much of a rip-off?"
"Xiao Hua, Little Taotie, quick, quick, quick, take them off, give them back! We can’t be fleeced!"
Hearing this, Little Taotie tilted his head, the Ghost Face Mask tilting too, "But Hua Jinyan already paid, they’re ours now."
"What? What did I miss?" Xiangxiang covered her mouth, "Are kids these days really this rich?"
Mo Haihao chuckled and leaned closer to Xiangxiang, lowering his voice, "Don’t act like you’ve never seen the world, Little Taotie d ten million from just one ad gig."
Xiangxiang sighed and suddenly getting an idea, touched her face and looked earnestly and expectantly at Mo Haihao, asked, "Isn’t it a waste that I’m not in show business with a face ?"
Mo Haihao thought to himself: yes, it’s a huge loss.
Yet his face remained expressionless, "Stop dreaming, it’s still daytime."
Xiangxiang glared at him, then crouched down to coax Little Taotie, "Lend it to sister for a bit, just for a photo and I’ll give it back, okay?"
While waiting to enter the Haunted House, Xiangxiang took several photos wearing the mask, and after photographing Little Taotie’s mask, she eagerly looked towards Hua Jinyan.
Without waiting for Xiangxiang to say anything, he took it off and handed it to her, "I’ll just give it to you."
"Thank you, Xiao Hua!"
Hua Jinyan twitched the corners of his mouth, "Please call me by my full name."
"Okay, okay, sister got it, you can count on me, Xiao Hua."
With the mask on, Xiangxiang’s face behind it revealed a triumphant smile.
The curtain of the Haunted House corridor was lifted, and two people walked out, their faces pale as if they’d been severely frightened.
Attendant: "It’s your turn now."
