"What was that, sir?" Lucas finally gathered the courage to ask his prince.
"What was what?" Sebastian raised his brows.
"The dance with the princess. Was it okay to risk her identity like this? You know how people will start targeting her if they hear she is your wife," Lucas reminded him of the reason why they agreed to hide her identity in the first place.
"I know that. That’s the reason I had my back to the others the entire time. It’s not like they can recognize me at a masquerade party," Sebastian said.
"Your aura is enough to tell everyone who you are. We just got lucky this time and nothing else," Lucas said, and Sebastian narrowed his eyes, not liking the way Lucas was talking.
"Why are you making it sound like I made some mistake? She is my wife. If people would know, they would know. I will send more security for her," Sebastian paused and looked at Lucas, who gulped.
This was the first time his prince sounded so possessive of the princess, and as much as Lucas wanted to be happy about it, for some reason, the dark expression in Sebastian’s eyes didn’t settle well with him.
Something was bothering his prince, and it was clear.
"Young Prince, can we have a chat in my office?" The principal asked, and Sebastian hummed.
"So? Are you going to tell me why my wife was attacked at the university premises, and there are no records or mentions of it? Where are the boys?" Sebastian asked.
Honestly, he had no use of coming here, but by coming here like this and cornering him for the boys, he would create a strong alibi for himself that he has nothing to do with the secret death of those five boys and the royals won’t come for him again.
"Sir, after we received your call, we tried to look for the boys, but it looked like they ran away. We are sorry for what happened with the princess. I will keep in mind that nothing like this is repeated," the principal tried to coax Sebastian.
"There shall really be no next time. Because I don’t think I will let a building stand where my wife was humiliated," Sebastian said and looked out the window.
The loud blasting music was even more clear at night. He wondered what his wife must be doing now after he left.
"Sir, this is the project that we wanted the investment from the Royal Kingdom. We are actually thinking of building a new lab for research students. They have brilliant ideas, but not all research can be conducted in the open. I hope you understand what I am trying to say here," The principal said.
Seeing that the prince wasn’t looking at him, the principal looked at Lucas, who urged him to keep speaking.
That’s exactly what the principal did. Sebastian narrowed his eyes when he saw his wife exiting the hall and standing at the railing.
Why was she standing alone? Did something upset her again? Why are her eyes -
Sebastian’s trail of thoughts paused when he noticed Daniel walking out of the hall and placing his hand a bit too close to the princess.
They talked about something before Elliana walked back inside the hall. He would never agree with anyone, but she was looking ethereal today.
"Does the lab you want to build relate to biotechnology?" Sebastian asked, and the principal thought the prince was concerned for his wife and nodded.
"Yes, sir. If the students show the right potential, we will even allow the first year to research as they want," The principal said.
"Okay, I’ll think about it," Sebastian said and walked out of the office with Lucas.
He didn’t have the patience to hear the principal’s coaxing words.
He walked straight to the building of the hall and was about to reach there when he heard Daniel’s loud voice due to his extra sensitive hearing.
"Elliana!" Sebastian heard, and his heart immediately skipped a beat.
He rushed inside the hall.
Elliana, who was too shocked to react earlier, narrowed her eyes and stepped back before she was swept away from her place to a few more steps. She placed her hand in front of her face to protect herself from the glass that might hurt her.
Bang!
The chandelier fell in the center, and the glass shards flew all over. Everyone stepped back as much as they could, especially humans, since they didn’t want to become anyone’s meal tonight.
"Are you okay?"
Elliana looked into the familiar blue eyes and nodded vaguely.
"Was I too late?" Dexter rubbed her cheeks with his knuckles.
Elliana looked down at her feet and noticed the small thin layer of shield that had formed around her.
Dexter saved her life today.
If he hadn’t taken her further away from the chandelier, the shield would’ve protected her, and her secret would’ve been displayed out in the wild that she is not a normal human.
Elliana gritted her teeth as Dexter helped her stand straight.
"Are you okay?" Elliana scrunched her brows when she smelt blood.
She looked at her hand and noticed the blood that was oozing from her hands.
"Always getting bullied, aren’t you?" Dexter sighed and took out his handkerchief.
He was about to tie the handkerchief to her hand when Daniel and everyone rushed to her.
"Hey, are you okay? Where were you lost? I even screamed your name!" Daniel shouted at her, and she sighed.
"I am sorry. I was dazed," Elliana didn’t explain anything further.
"She is bleeding," Melony said, holding her nose with her fingers to stop the smell from entering her nose that might make her lose control.
"Stay away from her," Dexter warned them, and seeing his eyes turning red, they didn’t need to be told twice that he was getting angry.
"She doesn’t need your handkerchief. It won’t make any difference. She needs proper first aid. She is human," Alcinder said, the only person who was the calmest in the crowd.
They were about to take her away when out of nowhere, a man walked to her in long strides and bowed to her before holding her hands.
"Hey, who are you -"
"Mr. Pablo?" Elliana asked, and Lucas, who was wearing a mask, felt thankful that the princess knew it was him.
But wait. How does she know his surname? This surname even the closest people around him don’t know of this.
Sebastian looked at his secretary, who was frozen in his place for some reason, and pinched the bridge of his nose in annoyance.
He just gave him one work. Bring the princess here so they could go home, but look at him.
"I think I’ll be alright. He... You don’t need to worry about that. I will go myself," Elliana hoped that he would understand the meaning behind her words, and Lucas nodded in a daze before leaving.
"Who was that?" Alcinder was the first to ask.
He doesn’t know if anyone noticed it earlier, but for some reason, it felt like Elliana was confident that nothing would happen to her.
She only took a couple of steps back at the last moment. She was bound to get affected by the aftermath of the glass breaking, and Dexter saved her from that.
Elliana looked at Alcinder. She knew that if there was anyone who would find out about her secret sooner, it would be Alcinder. Though he never voices it out, his observant gaze notices everything. Very clearly.
"Just someone I know. He is a friend of my guardian," Elliana said and looked at her hand.
It was healing itself. Though it was very slow, it was happening, and Elliana widened her eyes.
"I don’t want to go anywhere. Thanks for the handkerchief," Elliana smiled and wrapped the handkerchief in her hand with the help of Dexter.
"I won the voting. Are you happy?" Elliana looked at Melony as if she had done all this for this particular girl.
Her heart melted. Was this how she was supposed to feel by a human? Melony smiled at Elliana and hugged her.
"I know you did all this for me. From those photos that I clicked of you to this singing, everything you did for me because I wanted the winner from our department. I am so thankful to have gotten a friend like you," Melony said, and Elliana hummed, her gaze fixated on Madeline, who was standing there with gritted teeth.
Well, this wasn’t the end. It was just the start.
