Ding Cai’s rigidly smiling lips slowly turned cold.
Last time after the competition results were announced, they discussed it with him, but this time they just outright snatched the opportunity.
“It doesn’t matter if Lu Mian’s grades in other subjects aren’t good; I will have other teachers tutor her carefully,” the homeroom teacher of Class 1, Zhang Wenqiang, said with a smile as she stepped forward, and even comforted Ding Cai in return, “Mr. Ding, don’t worry. This is a great opportunity for Lu Mian to improve. I will definitely make her even better.”
Ding Cai wasn’t trying to prevent Lu Mian from moving to a better class; he didn’t begrudge her improvement.
He was well aware that, when Lu Mian first entered the school, the homeroom teachers of the classes ahead, especially Zhang Wenqiang, had desperately tried to avoid having her in their classes, for fear of pulling down their own class’s performance.
Last time during the monthly exam, they were all secretly relieved.

He stood up abruptly and spoke with much more firmness in his tone.
“Director, I think Lu Mian is doing just fine in our class. Besides, it’s her freedom to choose where she wants to go; no teacher has the right to make that decision for her.”
Zhang Wenqiang scoffed dismissively, “Mr. Ding, this is why you show your inexperience. It’s an honor for a student to jump from Class 25 to Class 1; no one would refuse. Just notify Lu Mian and tell her to pack her textbooks and report to Class 1.”
Ding Cai repeatedly expressed his disagreement.
He understood Lu Mian’s character the best; having a teacher like Zhang Wenqiang in charge wasn’t right at all. Could Zhang Wenqiang allow students to read novels in class? Could Zhang Wenqiang turn a blind eye and not collect Lu Mian’s homework? Could Zhang Wenqiang negotiate properly with Lu Mian?
Err… although that wasn’t what he wanted, at least he respected Lu Mian.
As the two teachers argued back and forth, Qiang Hua quickly stood up to intervene, “Alright, alright, let’s let Lu Mian decide for herself!”
Zhang Wenqiang was supremely confident, “That would be best.”
Ding Cai sighed; if that’s what Lu Mian wanted, he would respect her choice.
Lu Mian had just arrived at the school when she was called into the director’s office.
After she walked in, her cool and distant presence immediately seemed to lower the office temperature by several degrees.

So, if they wanted Lu Mian in Class 1, they might as well just rename Class 25 to Class 1, huh?!

Qiang Hua tried to persuade her, “Lu Mian, this is all for your benefit.”
They knew beforehand she was untamable, but they didn’t expect her to be so difficult to engage after the interaction.

The other teachers joined in the persuasion.

Qiang Hua, Zhang Wenqiang, and the other teachers couldn’t retain their dignity, all looking green-faced and unable to respond.
Only Ding Cai, like a little daughter-in-law, felt moved to tears by his student’s defense.
