Looking dejectedly at my phone, I flung it to the other side of the twin bed. It had no sightings that I was interested in seeing.
Well, I would say that I was too disturbed to use the phone that Peter had procured for me the day that I had asked for it. He had also gotten me a job at one of the café’s.
Wheew. I can’t wait to get back to it. Maybe if I was working, my mind wouldn’t be thinking of what had happened last night. From the miniature kiss to the brashiness of Adam, to the presence of his other two brothers.
I shook my head, and stretched my hand toward the makeshift table for the drug. Picking up the container, I gasped when I noticed that just one pill was remaining.
What? Had I consumed the hard work of Laura in just a few hours, last night. I bit my lips, feeling my wretchedness and wickedness seeping through my pores. She will go berserk when she hears of this. She will go more berserk in wanting to know what had happened that had instigated me to consume the pills like sweets.
Signing, I swung my foot over the bed, whilst keeping the container back to its former position. I will not take it again, after all I don’t see the reason for it now. I will take the last pill when it is needed, at least until we get out of this pack. God help me. Only if I wouldn’t see Adam and his brothers again.
Was that even possible? Our lodgings were within the lycan king’s special territory. A wrong misstep, and Adam would be in my face.
A hesitant knock sounded on my door, and I quickly took the container and hid it in my backpack, in case it was Laura. I wasn’t about to let her find out, not until we returned to the pack. I can concoct an answer for her then. Fortunately, it was just Diana.
I smiled when I saw her hop in, her feet bouncing off the grounds as she strutted in. She looked chirpy this morning. Well, Diana always looked chirpy except in cases where she doesn’t have her way.
During the time when we had left the Brekan guys behind us, she had kept her silent, until I had told her everything that had happened in her absence. The folding of her fists was the only act that had let me know that she had heard me, and that she wasn’t pleased with my news. Diana was like that sometimes.
"How was your night, girl?" I asked, standing up to open the window so that the morning air could get in, filter and freshen my room.
"It was peaceful. Very surprising if I must say. I had thought that I would see some nightmares in such a bad place. I don’t like here." Diana answered, dropping down on my bed, a loud sigh escaping her lips.
I opened my mouth to concur with her statement, but then thought better of it. Even though the pack members were callous and superficial like their leader, the grounds were beautiful, more lively than the people.
"Honestly, Diana, this place is not as bad as the people living in it. Don’t worry, I will show you around. Let me freshen up, and I will take you out for a stroll." I patted her head, smiling when I saw the excitement on her face, excitement that she had tried to conceal but failed.
She was definitely interested in knowing how the pack looked. I thought it was wise. Hopefully I won’t see Adam or his brothers.
"Have you freshened up? Have you had breakfast?" I asked her as I picked up my tooth brush and some toiletries out of my bag, my mind wheels stilling in motion, at the mention of breakfast. Would we be having breakfast with the king and the queen, you know as important guests of the mage kingdom?
Diana’s answer the next minute saved me from the torture I just subjected my mind to.
"Yeah. I have taken a bath. About food, a delivery guy dropped a food basket at our doorstep. Mother had sent me to call you up, so that the meals won’t get cold." She laid down on the bed, tapping her feet intermittently on the plush furniture. ʀᴇᴀᴅ ʟᴀᴛᴇsᴛ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀᴛ noᴠelfire.net
"You know even though I already detest the people here, I can’t deny the fact that they make good buns. Best snack I have had in awhile."
I chuckled, hearing her say this whilst heading to the bathroom. Give it to Diana to forget the perfectness of her mother’s food in a second, in front of a sugary snack. Of course I knew the buns she was talking about, and the deliciousness sof it, but I wouldn’t compare it to Laura’s meals.
I said nothing of course. That would only spark a debate, and after all the buns in question are very delicious. Hopefully, she won’t insist on having more when we are about to leave, or make me promise not to tell, so that she will sneak back to the pack.
Oh god no. I mutter, stepping into the bathroom.
"Yes!" I answer, letting my head seep between the door and the door. "What is the problem?" I ask, watching as she sat up on the bed, her eyes getting broody. What was it this time around?
"Maya, do you think you should leave a letter for your mother, and you know, your best friend, Naomi?"
I cocked my head to the side, taken aback surely, but doing a good job hiding it. I hadn’t expected the question.
Would I leave a letter? I don’t know. Was it a good idea? I didn’t want to raise their hopes, and then, I don’t know. Die later? I am still invested in the revenge, and I don’t think I would be able to rest if I forgo that, if I returned to the house and played the dutiful daughter.
No, I won’t be able to take it. It would only be a matter of time before I retrace back my steps.
"No, Diana. I don’t think that would be a good decision." I said, retreating my head back to the bathroom, shutting the door in its hinges, not waiting to hear her response.
