Naomi had said so when I had walked out of her closet strapped in a sexy as hell bikini I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing in my freaking lifetime for any reason.
But Naomi was very convincing, and we were alone after all, at least for another three hours. I think we would be done with swimming by then. I think I will be home by then.
"C’mon Maya, move that sexy butt out here!’’ Naomi screamed from the pool area. According to her, she couldn’t believe that I had been hiding all my bodily assets in oversized ugly clothes all these while. To testify to that, her mouth had fallen agape when I had walked out of her closet, such that I became as a shy girl in front of a crush.
"Jeez, maya. Where have you been hiding all this while? Why have you been hiding all these? I think these would have been enough to reduce all the bullying you have been suffering all these while." She had said, before drawing me to the long mirror that sat close to her dresser. I was surprised at myself too.
I had stopped looking at the mirror, since my sister, Lilian had broken mine. Till date, I am not sure if it was a mistake or if it had been a conscious action, but she hadn’t apologized, hadn’t bothered to let our parents know about the matter or buy another one for me since she could afford it; because according to her, I was a fat and ugly brute who didn’t need a mirror. A mirror would always remind me of my ugliness and might lead to my demise.

Then, taking a look at my fine curves which I had admitted were sexy and not fat, I had been wowed, a bit taken aback when a thought had crossed my mind suddenly.
What if Lilian had said all that because she was envious of my beauty? What if... I had shaken my head before taking more steps to Naomi who had walked around me, spanking my buttocks when she was done with the appraisal.
"Girl, I don’t know how you managed to hide all these, but it ends today. By tomorrow, I will transform you into a new figure. We are going shopping too by the weekend. So, clear out your schedule if you have one, friend. I will cover the costs, don’t worry about that." She had promised, obviously noticing the alarmed look on my face right before leaving for the pool area.
There was humour in her statement, but I could tell that she was dead serious about it. I was going shopping for the first time in my life.
Oh my, isn’t that great? I wondered, chuckling crazily at myself, humming as I applied sunscreen on my exposed body parts. My life seems to be getting a bit better.
"Maya! If I wait a minute more, I am coming in there to drag you out myself." Naomi screamed, and I sighed, unable though to stop the smile that had just slithered across my lips. This might be my best school year after all. Perhaps, the goddess had heard all my wishes and prayer of help finally.
"Thank you goddess." I muttered, before returning the bottle of sunscreen back to its base, and strolling out of the house to the pool area. Noami was already dipping in the pool when I came out.
What happened to diving in together? I thought amusedly, laughing out loud then when she shouted that she would be right out in a minute so that we could dive in again.
I could do this. I mused to myself, admiring her confidence and kindness. I could enjoy my life. With Naomi beside me, I could finally do it. I thought, diving into the water, before Naomi could say jack. Her face scrunched up, her lips pouted as she glared at me when my head came above the water.
"Hey, don’t look at me like that. You jumped first." I pointed out, unable to get rid of the smirk on my lips even when she folded her hand across her chest and pretended to be angry. "C’mon Naomi." I said, trying to appease her as I swam toward her.
"You know what, we can climb out together and jump again, how many times you want it." I said, touching her lightly on the arm. And when she still kept up with the pretense, I expertly swam around her, gathering some kind of momentum, before ducking her head in the water, and releasing it immediately so that she could come up for air.
"What do you think you are doing?!" she screamed, when her head came up. She kept wiping at her face as if to clear out residues of water, and I soughed, wondering if I had gone overboard with the joke.
"I’m sorry. I just thought that..." I was still saying, when I felt her hand press down my head forcefully as she ducked me into the water. She released me though immediately, laughing crazily the next second when she took note of the bewildered look which I knew I had on my face. I hadn’t seen it coming. The girl was really sly.
"How does it feel?" she asked, wiggling her eyebrows at me, such that I couldn’t help but smile, then laugh out again. She was really something. But I liked it. I liked that I could be free with her.
"It feels good.’’ I answered, nodding my head, sinking my fingers into my long blond hair which Naomi said looked better if let down. I usually tied it with a band to keep it away from my face. It was quite wavy and lengthy.
We were laughing and splashing each other water when suddenly we heard a voice, a deep voice, obviously male.
"I see you two are enjoying yourself. Interesting," The voice had said, cutting our laughter short.
