When the zombies from the south became too numerous to fit, they would start to spread to the east and west, drawing in scattered zombies from those directions and amassing outside Xiang City Base.
There was absolutely no chance the zombies would come from the north first.

As the phone rang, it was just outside Hua Mi’s ward. Bracing her belly, she stood by the window and turned around.
She saw her ward door open, and Gong Yi, dressed in his garrison combat suit, clean and crisp, was standing outside the ward.
It seemed he had hurriedly taken a shower to visit his wife and child, a hint of almost invisible fatigue lingering at the corners of his eyes.
Hua Mi didn’t wait for Gong Yi to speak; she hurriedly said from inside the room:
“Did you hear everything? D City has been submerged by the Zombie Tide, and looking at the trend of this tide, it’s heading for our Xiang City Base.”
Gong Yi entered the ward and placed his hands on Hua Mi’s shoulders, gently squeezing. His hand then rested on Hua Mi’s swollen belly.
As her belly was so large, Hua Mi was wearing loose maternity clothes that didn’t constrict her waist, topped with a thin sweater, giving her an overall softer appearance than before.
And she had gained quite a bit of weight.
As Gong Yi’s hand touched Hua Mi’s belly, the two little ones inside started wriggling about again.
They seemed to know that Daddy had arrived, and were exceedingly happy.
Hua Mi slightly furrowed her brows and looked at Gong Yi, waiting for his response.
She couldn’t leave the medical center lately because, in her current condition, she could go into labor at any time.
But the north lacked a wall, only an electric grid, and if the zombies from D City gathered and came to Xiang City, the north wouldn’t be able to hold out for long.
And according to the Zombie Tide’s pace, it wouldn’t take long to travel from D City to Xiang City; in less than two days, the Zombie Tide would swiftly reach Xiang City North.
Gong Yi nodded, helping Hua Mi back to bed to lie down,
“I will immediately gather people to go to Xiang City North. Rest assured, I won’t let anything happen to the three of you.”
Gong Yi protected Xiang City Base and all the survivors in it. He knew that in this base were his wife and two children.
So even if it cost him his life, he wouldn’t let the zombies from the north break into Xiang City Base.
Hua Mi took a deep breath. The bigger her belly grew, the more severe her panting became. The children inside pressed on her breathing, making speaking seem especially exhausting for her,
“Go ahead, don’t worry about us. The walls to the south and east are very solid; the zombies won’t be able to break through such sturdy walls and enter Xiang City Base.”
“I’ve already moved all the people working on the walls to the west. As long as we hold the zombies off in the north and south, the west wall will be quickly erected.”
The zombies on the east and west had all come from the south.
Since there were too many southern zombies and too few being killed off, they would gradually spread toward the east and west in search of a breakthrough.
Now, the eastern wall had been built very solidly, just a tad higher than the southern wall.
Outside, there were several protective electric grids.
It almost became an impossible existence to breach.
So, if Gong Yi held the north, Hua Mi could concentrate fully on the western construction.
Given enough time, she would be able to finish building the west wall.
Beside the bed, Gong Yi bent down, reached out, and embraced Hua Mi. He suddenly kissed her lips, and taking advantage of Hua Mi’s momentary daze, Gong Yi’s expression softened, and he rubbed her head with one hand,
“Don’t overwork yourself. If anything happens, call me immediately. In case…”
He did not finish the sentence.
He paused, then said,
“Find a safe place, and make sure to keep the children alive.”

He was not entirely confident that he could keep guarding Xiang City Base well.
