On her end, it was rather quiet; other than the rain, there was just more rain.
“Where are you?” Gong Yi furrowed his brows. “Where have you run off to this time?”
“I went to B City to solve problems for you.”
Hua Mi’s reply was crisp. There was yet another pile of mud ahead, and it was clear the vehicle couldn’t pass. She had no choice but to painstakingly exit the car and continue relocating the mud back to the garbage station.
This whole journey, she didn’t know how many times she had to stop and start again.
Gong Yi’s brows grew even tighter.
“What problem can you solve? Hurry up and come back.”
After a pause, he gripped his gun, disbelievingly asking again:
“How did you get out of the city?”
The only lane out of the city had been locked down by him. How did Hua Mi manage to get outside the city?
“Via the garbage dump, then onto the national road.”
Hua Mi moved the mountainous pile of mud into the garbage station, turned back, continued driving toward B City,
“Alright, I’m not going to talk to you anymore, I’m so busy I could die. I’m busy clearing the road.”
After speaking, she hung up on Gong Yi quite impatiently.
This man was fine in other aspects, but even though he was a clear-cut business type, he could be a bit of a nag.
After hanging up on Gong Yi, Hua Mi made a call to Chi Chuan,
“Chuanzi, where have you guys reached?”
In the drizzling rain, Chi Chuan and his pals, each carrying a big bag of banknotes and several sacks of banknotes on mountain bikes, were struggling towards Xiang B Highway.
“We’re almost at the Xiang B Highway, just a few kilometers away. My goodness, this road is really tough.”
Chi Chuan shouted at the top of his voice. He found it strange. Earlier on the trek, their phone signal had been dead.
Now why was the call from Sister Hua so clear?
“Don’t come back to Xiang City. I’m heading to B City. Go to B City and help me sell oranges and water.”
Hua Mi laid out her plan simply.
Anyway, Chi Chuan and his buddies couldn’t get back to Xiang City even if they tried; the whole Xiang B Highway was blocked and the road conditions were incredibly complex.
Selling supplies in A City was no different from selling them in B City for them.
Chi Chuan agreed without hesitation, turned around, and with eyes barely open due to the rain pelting them, he squinted and said to his buddies dragging the sacks behind him,
“Sister Hua told us to go to B City, she’s dragged oranges and water to B City to sell, so we’re going to B City.”
His buddies immediately took out a soggy map, huddling together, they confirmed their direction, and immediately headed towards B City.
From their location to B City was closer than going directly to the Xiang B Highway.
But Hua Mi still arrived in B City ahead of them.
She drove the utility vehicle straight into B City. The desolation in B City was even worse than Xiang City.
In Xiang City, you could still see a few steadfast buildings standing unscathed, but B City was of crumbled to rubble.
Not a single intact building remained.
There were vehicles on the road, sporadically heading out of the city towards Xiang City.
Hua Mi just casually parked the car beside a pile of ruins and waited inside the utility vehicle for Chi Chuan and the others.
The rain pattered against the windows as Hua Mi gathered her shoulder-length hair and clipped it on top of her head with a large clip. Then, she stood up to boil some noodles in the kitchen area of the vehicle.
Thinking it over, she added two eggs to the noodles.
She had the noodles, and the two kids, each had an egg.
Outside the window on the muddy road, vehicles from B City, battered and dented from the earthquake, still stubbornly passed by her vehicle.
Hua Mi wasn’t in a hurry; after eating her fill, she had a lovely sleep in the utility vehicle.
Several hours later, Chi Chuan and the others, covered in mud, appeared outside Hua Mi’s utility vehicle.
Hua Mi stood up, positioned at the door of the nanny van. The moment she pulled open the door, a flood of oranges burst out from behind her, pelting Chi Chuan completely.
“There are too many oranges, just sell as many as you can…”
Hua Mi laughed, a little embarrassed as she watched Chi Chuan nearly toppled by the wave of oranges.
The oranges continued to roll out. Behind Chi Chuan, his friends, looking disheveled, were staring wide-eyed in shock.
Someone sneakily picked one up, not caring whether the peel was dirty, and promptly tore into it and started eating.
How touching, they hadn’t had a full meal in A City, trekking through mountains and rivers, so thirsty they could only drink rainwater.
Now, to have these sweet and juicy oranges to eat felt too good to be true.
Before everyone’s emotions could settle, a car stopped by the roadside, seemingly observing the nanny van and the pile of oranges scattered around it.
A man got out of the car, hesitating as he looked at the sea of yellow and orange on the ground,
“Your oranges sure are plenty, do you sell them?”
“Sell, of course we sell!”
Chi Chuan snapped back to reality, and with his friends, quickly set up shop to start selling the oranges.
The price was set uniformly for both cities at 9.9 yuan each.
Since Xiang City’s oranges had made it onto the hot search online, everyone in B City knew the price. In Xiang City, you could get as many oranges as you wanted for 9.9 yuan each.
But to unexpectedly buy oranges at this price just outside the gates of B City was quite a surprise and touching as well.
The driver turned and ran back to his car, asking the woman in the passenger seat,
“Honey, how much savings do we have left?”
“A hundred thousand or so, why?”
The woman propped her head on her hand, her eyes gazing out at the nanny van.
The man mulled over it,
“We were heading to Xiang City, right? Let’s not go just yet. Let’s take out our money, buy tens of thousands of oranges, and sell them back in the city.”
B City was huge, they were aware of the situation inside as they had come from inside B City.
Many people were headed to Xiang City, but a significant number didn’t have vehicles, theirs were trapped under rubble.
Therefore, they could only walk to Xiang City.
Some hadn’t even made it out of the city yet.
Fortunately, their car was quite large; if they bought tens of thousands of oranges and sold them on the way into the city, without overpricing them—buying at 9.9 yuan each, and selling for 10.9 yuan each.
Wasn’t that tens of thousands in profit without any effort?
The woman in the passenger seat hesitated,
“What if we can’t sell them?”
“If we can’t sell them, we’ll just eat them ourselves.”
The man seemed determined. At this time, anything edible was easy to sell.
This money, in B City, was already not real money. What was it?
A string of numbers in a phone.
“Listen to me, honey. The money in Xiang City is still valuable. Holding onto these hundred thousand or so, we might not be able to buy much in Xiang City. It might be better to double it first, take a gamble, then head to Xiang City.”

But the man was diligent, after loading the trunk with oranges, he planned to return to B City, find a proper place to store the oranges first.
As it turned out, he didn’t find a place yet when the trunkful of oranges was already sold out.
