The Rebirth Of The Beast Tamer Chapter 79

At the center stood Taren, the boy from Willowreach, who they had met in the marshes with his face beaming.

Beside him was a girl, maybe fourteen, her dark hair were tied back, her eyes were bright with gratitude.

"You saved our village," Taren said, rushing forward to hug Kelvin, his small frame trembled with emotion. "This is my sister, Lila. She is safe because of you."

Lila stepped forward, her voice was soft but steady. "Thank you. All of you. Willowreach is rebuilding, and it is because you stopped the zombies."

Kelvin’s chest was warmed, the weight of their mission was lifted slightly. "We are just glad that you are okay," he said, ruffling Taren’s hair.

Darius smiled and knelt down to meet Taren’s gaze. "You gonna be a tamer one day, kid? Got a beast picked out?"

Taren’s eyes lit up. "A firewolf, like Xerion!" Lyra laughed, a rare, unguarded sound. "Good choice. Train hard, Taren."

As the crowd dispersed, Kelvin noticed a flicker in the shadows near the gate, a cloaked figure that had their face hidden, watching with an intensity that sent a chill down his spine.

The figure vanished before he could point it out, but the unease lingered, a whisper of the Veil’s presence.

That night, in the common room, they discussed the figure. "Could be nothing," Darius said, though his tone lacked conviction. "Or it could be a trouble."

Lyra’s eyes narrowed, her fingers traced a rune on the table. "The journals mention spies, tamers who turned to the Veil’s side. We need to stay vigilant."

Kelvin nodded, his hand rested on Xerion’s warm fur. "We train, we watch, we stay together. Whatever that is coming, we will face it."

The weeks passed in an intensed training, their skills were sharpened, their bonds deepened. One evening, as Kelvin stood on his balcony, Xerion was at his side, the Sanctum sprawling below, he felt a spark of resolve ignite within him.

The Veil was stirred and its shadows were creeped closer, but the Tide’s Crest was ready. Their unity was forged in fire, shadow, and earth, was a flame that would burn through any darkness.

He turned back and went inside, the night was cool against his skin, the journals were waiting on his desk. The future was uncertain, but with Lyra, Darius, and their beasts, he felt ready to face whatever lay ahead.

Very early the next morning, Kelvin stood near the central fountain, its gentle burble was a stark contrast to the storm raging in his mind. His staff rested against his shoulder, its fire-etched runes pulsing faintly, mirroring the rhythm of his heartbeat.

The pendant around his neck, carved with a flame rune, felt heavier than ever, a symbol of their triumph in the Shadowfen Marshes which is now overshadowed by the Veil’s growing menace.

The scars on his left arm was faint by this time but it is ever-present, tingled with the memory of zombie claws and wraith whispers, a reminder that their victories were fleeting.

Xerion, the End-Tyrant coiled beside him, his massive serpentine form was a living tapestry of crimson and gold scales that shimmered like molten metal.

At nearly twenty feet long, the ancient beast exuded a primal power, his sinuous body rippled with each slow movement.

His amber eyes was deep and ageless which held the wisdom of centuries, a testament to his legend as a Level 8 Legendary beast who had once turned the tide in the Great Rift War.

Xerion’s breath was a low hiss that vibrated the air which could unleash flames to melt stone, yet his presence was a steady warmth, his bond with Kelvin was a blazing anchor at an 80% sync ratio.

The serpent’s head nudged Kelvin’s side, the scales were warm against his hand, sensing the unease that churned within.

"You feel it too, don’t you, old friend?" Kelvin murmured as his fingers were tracing the ridges of Xerion’s scales. "The Veil is not done with us."

Lyra emerged from the dormitory archway with her silver braid catching the lantern light, her shadow-etched the gauntlet that was glowing with freshly crafted runes.

Salaris with her shadow-cloaked raptor, flickered at her side, her iridescent feathers blended seamlessly with the pre-dawn gloom, her talons clicked softly on the stone.

Lyra’s green eyes were sharp and searching, softened as they met with Kelvin’s, though fatigue lined her face from nights spent from studying the Veil journals. "You are up early," she said, her voice quiet but filled with concern. "Couldn’t sleep?"

Kelvin shook his head and his jaw was tightened. "Nightmares. The grove.....those wraiths, their whispers. It is like the Veil’s inside my head that was waiting."

Lyra nodded, her hand brushed the leather that bound journal tucked in her pack. "I have been reading about rift anchors. The one we destroyed... it was just a fragment. Something bigger is out there, pulling the strings."

Darius’s heavy footsteps broke the moment, his broad frame strided across the courtyard, a grin that tugged at his lips despite the early hour.

Rhoam, his iron-plated panther, moved behind with his massive paws leaving shallow prints in the dew-damp earth, his iron plates clinking like armor in the quiet.

Darius tossed a soulstone into the air and caught it with a flourish, its green glow casted eerie shadows across his face.

"Morning, doom-and-gloom squad," he said, his hazel eyes glinted with mischief, though a new seriousness lingered beneath. "What is the plan? More brooding or are we actually doing something today?"

Kelvin managed a half-smile, Darius’s levity easing the knot in his chest. "You had joke in the middle of a rift storm, wouldn’t you?"

"Gotta keep things light," Darius replied, though his grin faltered, betraying the weight of their recent battles. "Seriously, though, what has got you two so tense?"

Before Kelvin could answer, a low hum emanated from his pack which was the Sanctum’s monitoring device, its runes pulsed with urgency.

He pulled it out, the holographic display flickered to life, showing their silhouettes alongside Xerion’s serpentine form, Salaris’s sleek outline, and Rhoam’s hulking shape. A message scrolled across: "Report to the Council Chamber. Immediately."

Lyra’s eyes narrowed, her posture stiffening. "This is big. The Council doesn’t summon us unless it’s serious."

They hurried to the Council Chamber, a towering hall of polished stone and stained glass, its walls etched with runes that glowed with soulstream energy. The air was heavy with the scent of ancient wood and incense, the weight of history pressing down like a physical force.

The Council, five elder tamers, led by Headmaster Torin, they sat at a crescent-shaped table, their beasts arrayed behind them: a stormhawk with crackling feathers, a crystal boar with gleaming tusks, a shadow wyrm coiling in the gloom, and others, their presence a silent testament to the Sanctum’s power.

Torin rose, his silver robes shimmered in the lantern light with his piercing blue eyes locking onto the Tide is Crest.

"You have proven yourselves in the Shadowfen and the grove," he said, his voice resonant, carrying the weight of command. "But the Veil grows bolder.

A new rift has opened in the Iron Crags, a day’s journey to north. It’s spawning aberrations, creatures born of dark magic, stronger than the wraiths you faced."
