Song Chuanqi recalls the conversation he had with his son-in-law that day.
His son-in-law said, “Apart from drinking blood, there is no other way to alleviate the craving, unless you can endure this urge purely through willpower. However, your body is currently weak, I would suggest you to drink blood, or you might not make it through.”

His son-in-law replied, “I did it once, afterwards, I chose resistance.”
He asked his son-in-law, “Why did you stop after drinking only once?”
His son-in-law replied, “I didn’t want to become a blood-thirsty addict.”
Considering he would have to drink blood in the future if he gets sick, Song Chuanqi was filled with the same defiance as his son-in-law; he too didn’t want to become a blood-drinking monster.
If his son-in-law could hold on, why couldn’t he?
He didn’t want to lose to the younger generation!
Chang Danran stared at the various data on the monitor, then looked at Song Chuanqi and his tormented symptoms, suddenly remembered Xiaoman – why did she think that Patient 19’s physical index and Xiaoman’s condition during her relapse were so similar?
Chang Danran made everyone leave, closed the door of the sickroom, and asked directly, “Mr. Song, to be honest with me, is your current agony because you crave blood?”
Song Chuanqi was taken aback, but remained silent.

Song Chuanqi, lying on the hospital bed, didn’t affirm right away.
There was a melancholic glint in Chang Danran’s eyes, “My son was also afflicted with this disease. Last night, he had an episode too. Even if you don’t confess, I do have a vague idea. I am a doctor, and I need to accurately understand your condition to treat you effectively. If you don’t have this disease, please do tell me. I’ll treat you as per regular procedures. Trust me, doctors won’t harm you.”
Song Chuanqi didn’t want to be misdiagnosed, weakly and irritably admitted, “Yes, Dr. Chang, don’t give me random medications. Just leave me alone.”
No one knew that every word of their conversation fell into Ye Xingguang’s ears.
Ye Xingguang’s hearing was sharp. Even with the ward door closed, she could hear the conversation inside clearly.
She was stunned and in disbelief. Why would her father get this blood-sucking disease?
She had seen Ye Junqing’s painful state during his metamorphosis. But her father had never had this kind of disease before.
Chang Danran asked the same question in the ward, “Mr. Song, please tell me how you got this disease?”
Song Chuanqi would not betray his son-in-law and simply said, “To survive, nothing more can be said.”
“So… the sudden stability you experienced after being issued a notice of critical condition was because of this?”
Chang Danran ventured a guess, because her son had also been declared hopeless by the pediatrician, but then miraculously improved. She still didn’t know how his condition improved so suddenly and how he contracted this strange ailment of craving blood.
