Such a person was unfit to be the President, they said, voicing their pleasure over his disqualification.
Ye Xingguang couldn’t stand it any longer: “Why don’t you ask your brother to clarify? His disqualification from the presidential election is not because of the gas station explosion. It’s because Xia Yanyan wants to marry you, but you refuse.”
“Why do you care if he’s being blamed, given how ruthlessly he’s treated you?” she asked.
“That’s another issue. How about I post a Weibo status to clarify for your brother? I have quite a number of followers.”
As she was about to post on Weibo, Ye Junqi swiftly took away her phone as if terrified of her making a post.
Ye Junqi sternly said: “Why would you do that? Do you want the whole nation to turn and blame me, disregarding brotherly love?”
Ye Xingguang: “…I don’t think netizens would be unable to tell right from wrong, would they?”
Ye Junqi scoffed, “Even the brothers I grew up with can’t empathize with my perspective, let alone netizens. Currently, my older brother is just pressuring me with our family. Once the media reports it, who knows whether he will use the public’s opinion to force me into submission?”

She could understand why the other media outlets remained silent. After all, other presidential candidates were more than happy to see Ye Shiting get embroiled in such a scandal. When the car reached the hospital, Ye Junqi didn’t get out. Instead, he waited for Ye Xingguang to call her mother Bai Lanwu and take her shopping for clothes.
Ye Junqi took the mother-daughter pair to a shopping mall famous for its luxury stores. He stayed in the car, dealing with official business while he waited.
Ye Xingguang held her mother’s hand as they strolled around, putting the troubles to one side. She told Bai Lanwu how she had accidentally saved her parents-in-law and managed to win their hearts. Bai Lanwu found this very reassuring.
The two of them went straight up to the third floor, the customized area, where there were very few ready-made clothes. Instead, famous designers tailor-made clothes for customers.
Ye Xingguang had never been there before but Bai Lanwu was familiar with the place. She took her daughter to a decades-old shop, intending to have a few outfits tailor-made for her to wear when she gets engaged.
Futhermore, she heard her daughter owed the First Lady a dress. To compensate, they should give her a better one. Though the shop appears small and unimpressive, many nobles and socialites had to book a month in advance just to get a custom-made dress. If they offer the First Lady a dress from here, it wouldn’t be too shabby.
Xia Yanyan was also in the shop, there to pick up an outfit. She had ordered a set for Bai Peiluan, her future mother-in-law, as a way to curry favor. However, she received a phone call and nearly dropped her phone in shock.
“What’s wrong? Another mood swing?” Pan Huaiyun was there to accompany her to pick up the clothes.
A look of defeat dominated Xia Yanyan’s haughty face: “I just received news that Ye Junqi’s parents are back, and they asked my cousin’s husband to leave. They only recognise White Lotus as their daughter-in-law and would absolutely not let Junqi marry me!”
Pan Huaiyun was secretly pleased, yet she didn’t let it show: “Haven’t the elders of Ye’s family always adored you? Are you sure the news is accurate?”
Xia Yanyan was beyond frustrated, on the verge of exploding: “I have several maids under my control at the Ye’s who heard it with their own ears. White Lotus actually saved Ye Junqi’s parents! They are even disregarding their son’s presidential election in favour of their daughter-in-law. Have they eaten some kind of bewitching drug from White Lotus?!”
