His mount, eleven elegant and distinguished Rolls-Royces, carried him away from the detention center with audacious swagger.
Fu Zhuo, sitting in the passenger seat, couldn’t help but feel scared when reminiscing about the whole incident: “Sir, you can’t gamble this big in the future, putting all hope on someone utterly unpredictable. You have no idea how uneasy we all were, fearing the President wouldn’t use his power of pardon in the end, which would’ve been our doom!”
Having spent 27 hours in jail, Ye Junqing, however, didn’t show any sign of fatigue. He adjusted his seat to lie back on it languidly and threw out a statement in response: “I never fight a battle unprepared.”
Fu Zhuo mumbled under his breath, “Where does your confidence even come from?”
After some thought, Fu Zhuo then excitedly said, “But the greater the risk, the greater the return. You have no idea how the public reacted during the 27 hours you were locked away. I dare make a bold prediction, no one can compete with Sir Ye for the Presidential position.”
Turning his head, Ye Junqing observed the hustling voters in the streets and alleys, sensing the unstoppable momentum of his brother.
Yet the outcome of the presidential election was still unsettled, and celebrating would be premature.
In the past, his brother had never participated in a presidential election, so he couldn’t be sure whether his brother would ultimately secure the position. Everything that could be done had been done; all he could do now was to wait for the result patiently.
“What about Xingguang?”
At this moment, he missed her most, the little Mermaid.
“How did she react after I was sentenced?”
Was she worried sick?
“Don’t mention Miss Ye,” Fu Zhuo began. “You got yourself into such a mess, yet she’s as calm as a bystander, more indifferent than anyone. Forgive my meddling, but I really don’t see how much she cares about you.”
Ye Junqing frowned, feeling a bit disappointed. He hadn’t seen her in the spectator gallery when he had gone to court.
But while he could express this, he didn’t appreciate others saying so. Her sharing a selfie signaled her intention of deepening their relationship. That was already a huge surprise for him. Human desires should be limited; being too greedy could ruin everything.
With a slightly gloomy face, Ye Junqing shot Fu Zhuo a chilly glare, “Keep fanning the flames, and I’ll have you banished to the ends of the earth!”
At this warning, Fu Zhuo immediately shut up. But after a mere thirty seconds, he blurted out, “Sir, please remove me from your blacklist. I can’t call or message you, which makes it hard for me to work.”
Unfortunately, Ye Junqing just ignored him, closing his eyes to rest.
Feeling disheartened, Fu Zhuo figured he’d better be nice to Miss Ye and get himself removed from the blacklist as soon as possible.
After returning home to take a bath and change into formal clothes, Ye Junqing arrived at the stadium where the rally was already halfway through. Ye Shiting had just finished his headline speech which was met with a thunderous response from the teeming crowd.
Not only had Ye Shiting held a campaign rally tonight, but Lawson Perry and Pan Tenglong also held their own rallies at other venues. However, statistics showed that more voters were flocking to Ye Shiting’s rally.
After Ye Shiting’s closing speech, it was time for the entertainment program at the rally.
Ye Xingguang took the stage to perform what the audience most eagerly anticipated, “You’re My First Sunshine”.
It was rumoured that this song once defeated a foreign princess at a state banquet. The audience was eager to hear live the angelic voice of the girl described as beautiful as a carp.
