His silence made Ye Xingguang anxious, “Your parents aren’t calling off our engagement, are they? Did I do something wrong recently, did I upset them somehow?”

“Don’t overthink it. My mom wasn’t feeling well today, and I wasn’t in the Capital either. When I get back tomorrow, I’ll go with my parents to see ours and we’ll arrange for a meal together. We’ll finalize the marriage then,” he reassured her.
Ye Xingguang asked anxiously, “What’s wrong with my future mother-in-law? Is she sick? Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”
Ye Junqing made up an excuse on the spot to calm her down, “You know…women have those days when they don’t feel well.”
Ye Xingguang accepted the explanation for now: “I see. Let’s wait until next week then. My dad will be discharged from the hospital by then. We can arrange for a meal in a restaurant where your parents and mine can dine together. Otherwise, once my father is discharged, he may return to the island. It’ll be inconvenient to meet in person again.”
Ye Junqing proposed, “Have you ever considered asking our parents to stay in the Capital in the future? Our father’s condition requires regular dialysis, which would be inconvenient on the island.”
“It’s okay. There’s a health station on the island where my father does his dialysis, and besides, my parents dislike living in the city. When I was young and there were no schools on the island, the villagers suggested to my father, for my sake and education, to move to the city. But he refused, preferring to buy textbooks and teach me at home. I don’t want to ask them to stay in the Capital just for my convenience. That would be too selfish.”
“Staying in the Capital might give us a better chance of finding a suitable kidney donor for a future transplant, then he wouldn’t need daily dialysis. I’ll get someone to help find it.”
“Yes, your family has more resources, you might just be able to find the kidney source. Thank you, otherwise, I could only wait for Dr. Bo’s medical team to develop an artificial kidney, but who knows how long that will take.” She felt that all the money she had invested in Dr. Bo’s team was a waste.
Just as they were discussing this, her phone rang. She glanced at it, it was Bo Jingyu.
“How has your father’s health been these days?” Bo Jingyu asked her over the phone.
“He has stabilized a lot, the doctors in the Capital say he can be discharged in a week or so.”
“If so, then I’ll come to the Capital in three days. I’ll ask your father directly if he’s willing to try, and if he is, I’ll arrange for him to have the artificial kidney transplant surgery.”
