Bai Lanwu sighed, “Alright then, Xia Ye should be coming back soon. Let him take care of Ye Xingguang when he’s back, you can leave then. I’m going to take a bath first.”
In Xia Ye Zhao’s eyes, there was a sense of gratitude and even a hope that Ye Jun would not come back and steal his opportunity to care for his little sister.
After Bai Lanwu had taken a shower and found that Ye Jun had not come yet, he called him. However, his phone was switched off. Bai Lanwu went to check on his daughter. Ye Xingguang told him to go to bed and so he did.
He wakened less than an hour later to check on his daughter and found Xia Ye Zhao by her bedside all the while. Relieved, Bai Lanwu went back to sleep.
Ye Xingguang’s acute gastroenteritis wasn’t too bad during the day; it was just a fever. But at night, it got worse with frequent diarrhea. Each time, Xia Ye Zhao carried the IV drip and accompanied her to the restroom, anxiously waiting outside with his heart in knots.
Given his little sister’s condition, he reckoned it was going to be a long night. He decided to call Chang Danran to inform him that he wouldn’t be coming home that night in case it was necessary.
After a few trips to the toilet, Ye Xingguang felt weaker. She had severe abdominal pain that made her curl up in bed. Xia Ye Zhao felt helpless and panicked upon watching her squinch with pain.
At midnight, after two IV drip bags were emptied and she was still in pain, he called Xu Ya to question his medical abilities.
Xu Ya, though innocent, was lucky to be on duty at the hospital that night. He hastily came over and explained, “Bro, acute gastroenteritis manifests this way. I’m a doctor, not a wizard. Do you expect her to be cured just after two bags of IV drips? Even a cold takes six days to recover. Don’t worry, she won’t die from it. Ensure she keeps hydrated to prevent dehydration. With continuous treatment for about three to four days, she should get better.”
Xia Ye Zhao knew that Xu Ya made sense, but he couldn’t think logically when he saw his little sister in so much pain.
Bai Lanwu couldn’t sleep too, getting up in the middle of the night. Seeing his daughter, soaked in sweat with her brow furrowed in pain, he didn’t know how to help.
Ye Xingguang herself was comforting the two, “I’m fine. I just have a stomachache. Mom, go sleep.”
“Sleep? I shouldn’t have let you eat hotpot last night. It’s not hygienic. Look what it’s done to you; vomiting and diarrhea. I have to complain about that restaurant, their food must be unsanitary! I don’t know what’s up with Xia Ye too, he’s not here when needed, and his phone’s unreachable.”
Ye Xingguang mumbled, remembering the message she received from Ye Jun in the evening, saying, “He told me he had to make a trip to Lin City due to some urgent matter and might not be in the capital today.”
Whether he’s on a business trip or not, Ye Xingguang couldn’t be bothered. She was too irritated.
Anyways, he’s always busy, busy enough to have time to dine and chat happily with his childhood friends, yet too preoccupied to eat the pickled pepper fish head that her mom made. She was not one of those illogical people with delusions who insist everything goes their way. It was fine if he wanted to dine with his childhood friends, why would he need to lie to her?
