After dinner, the family spent some time watching TV and chatting in the living room before they dispersed.
After her bath, Ye Xingguang lie in bed scrolling through Weibo. There were so many posts related to her—Xia Qiongqiong, the parents of the koi girl, the parents of Guobao…
She felt a headache brewing from reading all of it, and was still angry about her biological parents’ behavior. She exited Weibo and turned to her friend circle, where she saw a picture Tang Zhou had posted of a snowy landscape abroad.
After his bath, Ye Junqing, who was lying beside her, noticed her looking at the snow photo. He embraced her softly in his arms, “Do you like snow?”
“Tang Zhou’s photography skills have always been great.” Ye Junqing saw the photo too, a white world of snow which was so appealing and relaxing. He was busy all day and envied Tang Zhou for his free and easy life.
Ye Xingguang tossed her phone aside, wrapped her arms around his waist, and snuggled into his embrace, “I love it! I’ve hardly had a chance to see such thick snow. In the imperial city, we only get one or two bouts of snowfall in winter. It doesn’t satisfy my fantasy about snowy landscapes at all.”
“Want me to take you to see it?”
Feeling upset, Ye Xingguang muttered, “When will we find the time?”
“One can always make time.” He knew she was in a bad mood and thought a getaway might cheer her up.
Checking the time, Ye Junqing picked up his phone from the bedside table and called Xiao Yun: “Find the nearest place from the imperial city where we can see snow tonight.”
Unsure of what Xiao Yun said, Ye Xingguang looked up at him, “Are you crazy, tonight?”
“Alright, you arrange it.” After talking with Xiao Yun, he hung up and then glanced down at her, “You said there’s no time, right? Let’s make time then. We can get to a snowy place in an hour and a half by helicopter. Interested? Tomorrow morning, you’ll wake up to a snowy view outside your window. You can take pictures however you like.”
Ye Xingguang yearned for it deeply, “But, I have to work tomorrow. Plus, my parents just moved in, so I can’t just disappear. I also need to call Dr. Chang tomorrow so he can come and look after my dad…there’s a lot to do…”
“Take leave from your work. I’ll have my mother handle everything else. All you need to do now is get up, find your warmest clothes, and Xiao Yun will fetch us by helicopter in five minutes. I’m giving you five minutes to decide. Want to go? Then change your clothes.”
Before Ye Junqing could finish, Ye Xingguang had already jumped off the bed and hurriedly ran towards the dressing room.
Once inside, she realized she had no winter clothes! Her walk-in was full of autumn outfits. How was she supposed to buy a down jacket now?
Ye Junqing entered the dressing room right after her, found his own down jackets from last year, and tossed one over to her, “Wear this.”
“Your jacket is too large for me.”
But she held on to it like a treasure anyway. His short down jacket extended into a long coat on her. She quickly dressed in her sweatshirt, grabbed the down jacket, and was soon out the door with Ye Junqing.
Just before leaving, they notified their parents downstairs.
As soon as the helicopter landed in the yard, Ye Xingguang was excitedly pulled onboard by Ye Junqing. She couldn’t help asking questions as they took off. The idea of flying to another city in a helicopter to see the snow in the middle of the night made her feel like they were mad.
But two hours later, when they entered a world covered in pure white snow, she didn’t regret their madness at all. The snowy forest beneath them would have been a spectacular view in daylight.
