A child with Zhao Zhan?
Yue Jiaojiao had never thought of this scenario.
“Madam Qin, have you seen Li Miao recently?”
Li Miao was Yue Jiaojiao’s first friend, and she meant a lot to her.
“A few days ago, I saw her bringing food to Yang Dashan, but I didn’t see her after that. She’s feeding two bellies now, so it’s normal for her to rest at home.”
“I’d like to visit her.” Yue Jiaojiao put on her clothes and sat by the table.
Madam Qin naturally helped her comb her hair. “I’ve prepared some eggs for her.”
“If there’s a slaughtered chicken at home, please help me get one too.”
Zhao Zhan opened the door in the backyard that Chengfeng had left for him when he was under construction so that he could avoid the crowd and go to the back of the mountain.
These days, the bouts of meat eaten in the family were usually brought back by Chengfeng. He usually wouldn’t leave the mountain until his stomach was filled.
“Alright, I’ll bring you the breakfast that was prepared first. Then, I’ll go and prepare the things for your neighbor.”
Yue Jiaojiao nodded her head.
When she left the house, Madam Qin followed her to the door with a basket.
“Madam Qin, I insist.” Yue Jiaojiao saw that Madam Qin was unwilling to let go and smiled helplessly. “I can carry these things. You don’t have to worry.”
Madam Qin really felt that her lady had been pampered so much that she couldn’t even lift her fingers. If her arms were tired again, Madam Qin thought that she wouldn’t be able to explain it to Zhao Zhan.
“I definitely won’t have a problem with carrying this.”
Yue Jiaojiao immediately reached out to take the basket.
“Jiaojiao ” Zhao Zhan strode over and took the basket from her. “Are you going to see Li Miao?”
Madam Qin returned to the courtyard without a word.
“Aren’t you busy working at the back?”
“I thought you might wake up, so I came to see if you were warm enough.” Zhao Zhan held the woman’s hand and walked naturally. “I’m glad you’re visiting her.”
“I heard from Madam Qin that she hasn’t come out for a few days. I’m worried.”
Yue Jiaojiao had always felt that fetuses were essentially parasitic creatures. They absorbed the nutrients of their mother to develop themselves.
Every mother was a great existence.
“I’m going to town to pick up Doctor Sun in the afternoon. I’ll ask him to look at her when he’s back. I didn’t think about it before, so I guess Dashan is too embarrassed to take the initiative.”
“It’s fine. I’ll go and check it out.”
The two of them had already reached Li Miao’s house. The courtyard door was opened, so Zhao Zhan placed the basket in the kitchen. “I’ve put the things under the chopping board. You can tell her about it later, I’ll go to the warehouse first.”
“Alright, see you after work.”
The two of them did not try to hide their voices. Li Miao heard the commotion from inside and asked weakly, “Is that Jiaojiao and Zhao Zhan? Come in.”
Yue Jiaojiao entered the room.
The room was dark in broad daylight, and Li Miao’s body was curled up under the blanket. Yue Jiaojiao only realized that her thin face was sunken when she got closer.
“Li Miao, is that you?”
Yue Jiaojiao pulled down the curtain that was covering the window and opened a small gap to “You need to let in some air. If the room isn’t ventilated, people will get dizzy staying inside. I’m sorry, I didn’t have the time to visit you these few days.”
“I’m fine,” Li Miao said with a warm smile. “I slipped and fell two days ago. Dashan was worried, so he asked me to stay in bed. You came at the right time. We can have a chat together.”
Yue Jiaojiao moved a stool over and sat on the edge of the bed.
Li Miao was obviously forcing a smile on her face. She frowned and said in a concerned tone, “Li Miao, we don’t keep secrets from each other. Zhao Zhan and I will definitely help you when you need it, you know this.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Li Miao quickly turned her head, her back trembling slightly.
Yue Jiaojiao got up and sat by the bed, gently patting her back to prevent her from crying too hard and passing out.
Yue Jiaojiao waited until Li Miao’s crying gradually stopped before she asked, “What happened?”
“I won’t hide it from you.” Li Miao held onto Yue Jiaojiao’s hand. The corner of her mouth twitched, but she couldn’t bring himself to smile. She then lowered his head and said, “It’s about the pickling workshop that Zhao Zhan started.”
“Is it about recruitment?”
Yue Jiaojiao only needed to think for a moment to guess the reason.
Unlike skewers of chili, which was a job that could only be done for a few days, the pickling workshop was a place where one could earn stable silver for a long time.
The place was in the village, so it didn’t interfere with the family’s work. The salary was generous enough, and the work wasn’t too heavy. It was more cost-effective than the men at home doing short-term work in town.

She was so angry that her face turned white.
Yue Jiaojiao hurriedly consoled her, “Don’t be anxious, speak slowly. Whatever happens, Zhao Zhan and I can solve it.”
