“Send away that nephew of yours. He ruined my plans.”
“I wanted to build a good relationship with the man downstairs, but since I’ve already offended him, I might as well change my method.”
His cold eyes landed on Yue Jiaojiao’s face.
He wanted everything that man had. As for the woman, he would take her as well. Otherwise, it would be a waste of this girl’s good looks.
Yue Jiaojiao, who had already walked to the door with Zhao Zhan, looked up as if she had sensed something and happened to meet the man’s eyes.
Sensing that his lover’s footsteps had slowed down, Zhao Zhan turned his head. the man on the second floor had already disappeared, leaving only the manager with an apologetic look on his face as he cupped his hands toward Zhao Zhan.
“Zhao Zhan, did you see that?”
Yue Jiaojiao’s voice had always been soft, but this time, it was mixed with the slyness of a sly fox. “We’re being targeted.”
The two of them left the place as they spoke.
Zhao Zhan looked around warily, then said softly, “Was it the person that was keeping an eye on us on the second floor just now?”
“Well, I don’t know what his purpose is yet, but he’s definitely not a good person. You have to protect me well.”
Yue Jiaojiao wasn’t the kind of person that would stand idly by if she knew she was in danger. She would make sure that she was safe. She didn’t want to spend so much effort guarding against trouble alone.
“I definitely will!” Zhao Zhan clenched his lover’s little hand tightly, afraid that he would lose the person in front of him if he was not careful.
Yue Jiaojiao was not nervous or scared at all.
Zhao Zhan would deal with everything that came her way.
The size of Huai County’s clothing store was three times larger than the one in Wangshan Town. Zhao Zhan already knew that the good stuff was upstairs, so he directly asked the shop assistant to take them to the second floor.
While Yue Jiaojiao happily picked out her clothes, he followed behind her step by step and complimented her on how good she looked.
The joy of picking and buying clothes made one unable to stop.
She picked out six sets of clothes for herself, some a little thick and some a little showy. Then, she picked out a few sets for Zhao Zhan.
“I don’t need it. You should buy a few more sets for yourself.”
Zhao Zhan’s heart felt as sweet as honey when she chose some for him, but he really couldn’t bear to spend the money on himself. “You’ve bought too little for yourself. Buy a few more so you can change into new ones every day.”
“Do you not like what I chose for you?”
When his lover said this, Zhao Zhan had nothing to refute.
He didn’t hate it. In fact, he wished he could treasure these clothes she chose forever. This was something that the love of his life had personally tested on him!
Yue Jiaojiao visited almost all the shops on East Street. By the time they left, Zhao Zhan’s hands were full of bags. However, he was used to carrying prey on his back and running in the mountains all year round. Even though he was carrying so many things, he did not feel tired at all, especially when these things were the most precious things to his lover.
When it started to get dark outside, only then did Zhao Zhan realize that they had been walking around for so long.
“Are you tired?” Zhao Zhan stopped in front of Yue Jiaojiao and looked at her worriedly. “Do your feet hurt? I’ll carry you back to the inn.”
As he spoke, he hung the things in his hands around his neck and squatted down in front of her heart.
Yue Jiaojiao laid on him while they went back. Before they reached the inn, Yue Jiaojiao had already wobbled into a deep sleep.
