Han Xi rubbed her face against Lu Jinghan’s chest. She had become accustomed to waking up in this man’s arms every day: "We need to go to the hospital for a check-up today."
"Got it. We’ll go after breakfast."
"And....."
"Shh, girl, I want to hold you and sleep a bit longer."
Last night, after Han Xi fell asleep, Lu Jinghan dealt with files in the study until past four in the morning, and now he was extremely sleepy.
Han Xi quietly let him hold her. Once he fell asleep, she gently sat up from his arms, lifted the blanket, and got out of bed.
After washing up in the bathroom, Han Xi went downstairs. Once she finished breakfast, she went to the conservatory in the yard. Holding a watering can, Han Xi watered the flowers and plants, her mood inexplicably good.
When Lu Jinghan came downstairs after waking up, Han Xi was watching TV in the living room. Hearing the footsteps, she turned around: "I asked Sister Zhang to keep your breakfast warm. You can eat anytime."
"Have you eaten?"
Han Xi forked a small piece of apple and put it into Lu Jinghan’s mouth: "I’ve already eaten, you go eat quickly."
Lu Jinghan rubbed Han Xi’s head affectionately before heading to the dining room.
After eating, the two went to the hospital. About twenty minutes later, the car stopped in the hospital’s underground parking lot, and Lu Jinghan got out of the car, holding Han Xi’s hand as they took the elevator together.
They went straight to the obstetrics department after exiting the elevator. There were quite a few people today, and Lu Jinghan helped Han Xi sit on a long bench in the corridor, waiting for almost half an hour before it was their turn.
After the examination, all indicators were normal, and the baby was healthy. The obstetrics doctors laughed and said that Han Xi should treat them to a meal someday to celebrate.
Han Xi agreed with a gentle smile, saying she would definitely treat them when they had time.
Leaving the obstetrics department, Han Xi said she wanted to go back to the office to get a book. She hadn’t been to the hospital since knowing she was pregnant, and there was a medical book she hadn’t finished reading. She wanted to take it home to continue reading.
Lu Jinghan received a call from Feng Yi, saying a document had been sent to his mobile email and he needed to check it urgently.
"The hospital is too noisy, go to the car to read the document, and I’ll find you after I get the book."
Lu Jinghan nodded as he looked at Han Xi: "Be careful."
"I know, go quickly."
Lu Jinghan left only after watching Han Xi get in the elevator. After greeting her colleagues in the department, Han Xi went to her office, took the book from her desk drawer, and left.
Just as she got off the elevator and arrived at the lobby, she coincidentally ran into Zhang Min and her daughter. She ignored them and brushed past, but Han Yaxin grabbed her.
"Did you place Zhong Li by Nancy’s side? Are you just not wanting me to have a good life?"
Han Xi turned around, shook off Han Yaxin’s hand, and looked at her with slightly cold eyes: "Did you forget to take your medicine before going out, biting anyone you see?"
Yesterday, because Zhong Li slapped Han Xi, Han Yaxin was still brooding over it. How could she not find fault now?
"Stop playing dumb with me, today I’m going to return that slap."
Han Yaxin’s raised hand was suddenly held in the air, Zhong Li’s eyes filled with chilling intent: "Dare to touch her, try it."
Protected by Zhong Li, Han Xi suddenly felt an indescribable sense of familiarity, a feeling of déjà vu.
