Han Xi had just stepped off the elevator when she saw a crowd in the corridor, arguing: "How can you call yourself a nurse? Do you even know how to give an injection? My mom is so old, and you’ve bruised her hand!"
A fierce-looking man shouted loudly at the young nurse.
The young nurse sniffled repeatedly, feeling wronged: "Auntie’s veins are really hard to find because of her age. I’ve already....."
Before the nurse could finish speaking, the man pushed her: "What kind of attitude is this? I want to file a complaint against you."
Han Xi couldn’t stand it any longer. She walked over with a frown, her clear voice tinged with displeasure: "Sir, don’t you think you’re being a bit excessive? If there’s an issue, you can discuss it reasonably. There’s no need to lay hands on a young girl."
The man looked at Han Xi arrogantly, his tone aggressive: "Who do you think you are? Mind your own business."
"I’m a doctor here. The nurse’s explanation was indeed correct. It’s hard to find veins in elderly people’s hands. How about I arrange for another nurse to give her the injection?" Han Xi tried to negotiate politely.
Upon hearing that Han Xi was a doctor, the man suddenly rammed into her without thinking. Han Xi staggered into the wall, her forehead getting injured.
Chen Zheng, who had just exited the office, witnessed the scene and rushed over to protect Han Xi. He looked at the man with dark eyes: "Try laying a hand on her again."
Seeing Chen Zheng in a white coat, the man realized he was also a doctor and laughed scornfully: "I hit people, so what? You doctors can’t hit patients’ families."
Looking at the man’s hateful expression, Chen Zheng raised his fist but was stopped by Han Xi: "Call security."
Onlookers started commenting one after another, accusing the man of making a fuss and deliberately causing trouble for the doctor and young nurse.
The man was right; medical staff are not supposed to hit patients’ families, but faced with such unreasonable relatives, there’s an urge to knock them back into the womb.
Once security arrived, Chen Zheng took Han Xi to take care of her wound. After disinfecting and bandaging it, he looked at her worriedly: "Don’t rush into these situations again. Fortunately, the injury isn’t serious this time. Next time, you may not be so lucky."
"Alright, I understand. You should go back to work." Han Xi stood up from the sofa, took her white coat, and put it on.
After Chen Zheng left, Han Xi returned to work.
Right after getting off work, Han Xi’s cell phone on the desk started ringing. She picked it up and saw a familiar number on the screen, one she could recite backwards. She hesitated for a few seconds before pressing the answer button.
"Xiao Xi, I’m at the hospital’s main entrance. Come out when you’re done," came Li Chenghao’s gentle voice from the other end of the line.
"Alright, I’ll head down now."
After hanging up the phone, Han Xi took off her white coat, grabbed her bag, and headed out.
As she walked out of the hospital entrance, she saw Li Chenghao from afar across the road. He was leaning against a black Bentley with one hand in his pocket, holding a cigarette with the other. He looked up and made eye contact with Han Xi, threw the cigarette to the ground, stamped it out, and walked towards her.
"How did you get that injury on your forehead?" Li Chenghao stopped in front of Han Xi, looking at her with concern. She had been fine just that morning.
