The Scheming Ex-Husband's Courtship Chapter 117

"That’s an awful lot, and I’m pressed for time," Gu Qili begged, "Can you give me just a tiny bit more time?"

Mu Shuoqian gave her a cold glance, sat down at the computer, and spread his hand in front of her: "If you don’t want to do it, hand it over."

"I’ll do it, I’ll do it, why wouldn’t I?" she hummed, "Worst comes to worst, I’ll just stay up all night."

Mu Shuoqian silently passed her the tablet, his entire being from nose to toes spelling out two words: Dream on.

The material really was excessive, and full of professional jargon; even for Gu Qili, it was quite a headache. By midnight, she had only translated a tenth of it; at this rate, there’s no way she would finish before he woke up in the morning.

Gu Qili thought, if only there were a way to make him sleep a bit longer, but that man never had a habit of oversleeping.

As she thought this, she suddenly had an idea.

All the spare keys for the rooms were kept in the living room drawer, she had seen them while tidying up; most of the bedroom keys were never inquired after and generally served no purpose.

After finding the keys, Gu Qili tried her own room first; after a process of elimination, she determined that the other key was for Mu Shuoqian’s room.

At 2 AM, when she guessed he had long been asleep and after she had translated another page, she quietly slipped out.

The silent carpeting effectively masked the sound of her footsteps; using the light from her phone, she inserted the key into the keyhole and gently locked the door from the outside.

The windows were equipped with security bars; it was impossible to exit through there, leaving only this door as a way in or out.

Having done all this without anyone being the wiser, Gu Qili could finally continue translating those obscure and difficult documents with peace of mind.

Until the dawn’s light gradually brightened the bedroom window, and the warm, gentle light filtered through the white lattice, not glaring in the slightest.

Gu Qili stretched, rubbing her sore eyes, and looking down at the dozen or so documents she hadn’t finished translating, she couldn’t help but complain.

This simply wasn’t humanly possible, Mu Shuoqian, that damned capitalist.

Gu Qili glanced at the clock, knowing he should be up by now, but even if he was up, she knew he couldn’t get out, so she still had time to finish translating the remaining dozen pages.

Feeling suddenly extremely thirsty after a night of work, Gu Qili took the opportunity to run out for a drink of water.

As soon as she turned into the kitchen, she froze, covering her mouth as if she’d seen a ghost.

There at the dining table, Mu Shuoqian was sitting in his white shirt and black trousers, reading the newspaper; and judging by the thickness of the paper, he’d been at it for quite some time.

How... how did he get out? ᴛhis chapter is ᴜpdated by novelFɪre.net

"Good morning," she said nervously, debating whether to get water or to sneak back to her room.

Mu Shuoqian turned a page of the newspaper without responding to her, yet it was as if he had eyes in the back of his head.

"Almost done, just a tiny bit left," Gu Qili wiggled her fingers, "Go on with your reading."

Mu Shuoqian had already closed the newspaper, folding it neatly and placing it on the dining table, "If it’s not done, it’s not done, there’s no need for any excuse."

Gu Qili pouted, muttering under her breath. He was being unreasonable—how could all that material possibly be translated in one night? It was simply tyrannical and illogical.

"Mumbling about me under your breath won’t help," he suddenly stood up, staring at her with a sharp gaze, "A qualified employee never has sloppy excuses. I assigned the task to you because I had already considered that this work could be completed. The reason it wasn’t, isn’t because I’m asking too much, but because of your limited capabilities. If you spent less time looking up dictionaries, you could have saved half the time and finished this document with ease."

He suddenly turned into a lecturing boss, leaving Gu Qili stunned.

She was still a student and didn’t understand workplace matters, but there was no denying that what he said made sense.

It indeed was due to her limited ability, those obscure professional terms had wasted too much of her time. Had she grasped these concepts more comprehensively in her normal studies, this issue of not finishing the task wouldn’t have occurred.

Gu Qili lowered her head and said softly, "I know I was wrong."
