Mu Shuoqian suddenly stopped, his gaze heavy as he looked at her, his handsome thin lips pressed into a line.
Gu Qili felt uncomfortable all over from his gaze. She meant well, simply wanting to take a photo for them, but under his intense scrutiny, she suddenly became the prime culprit. The role reversal was too abrupt.
"I never take photos with women." He spoke faintly, leaving her behind as he continued to stride forward. His retreating figure was tall and indifferent, unattainably aloof.
Behind him, the shocked nurse was holding the phone that had been fished out of the water, hurrying to ’rescue’ it.
Gu Qili shouted an apology in the direction he had left, shook her head, and caught up with Mu Shuoqian.
"What about that man?"

In the Maybach 62, she saw no sign of Xiao Ran; a packet of stomach medicine was left on the back seat.
Mu Shuoqian opened the driver’s door and sat in. Gu Qili was about to sit in the back when his gaze suddenly drifted over, silent yet bearing down on her.
His look was too intense, silently staring in a way that was truly disheartening. Under his deadly stare, Gu Qili obediently moved to the passenger seat and buckled up.

"What for?" His face showed displeasure, but he slowed the Maybach 62 down to the curb. It was hard to find a parking spot at this time; even a luxury car had to struggle for a tiny space. Mu Shuoqian circled the supermarket twice and then tried the underground parking lot again, still unable to find a spot.
"Just wait for me here on the road, I’ll be back quickly," Gu Qili unbuckled her seat belt and hurried out of the car under his displeased gaze.
When she walked into the supermarket, she looked back worriedly. He hadn’t pulled over; instead, his car arrogantly blocked the lane behind, with continuous beeping of horns. But as soon as they saw the glaring "M" logo, the cars queued up would automatically take a turn to detour, not wanting to risk bankruptcy.
The car window was cracked open, letting out a wisp of smoke. The dark tinted film hid everything inside, but without looking, Gu Qili could imagine him leaning on the car seat smoking with a cold face.
That he was willing to make do was a huge surprise to her.
Soon, Gu Qili rushed out of the supermarket, carrying two plastic bags. The arc her black A-line skirt made was stunning, revealing a glimpse of her snowy white thighs.
Mu Shuoqian’s eyes slightly narrowed. He extinguished the cigarette in his hand; this was the third one, and her speed was pretty fast.
Gu Qili got into the car and placed the bags at her feet. She had hurried out earlier without checking the receipt. Now remembering, she bent down to check each item against the list until it all tallied without discrepancy. Only then did she breathe a sigh of relief and neatly folded the receipt back into her pocket.
This was an unplanned expense for the month; she’d have to figure out a way to save from somewhere else.
Only after doing all of this did she suddenly notice the man beside her had been watching her the whole time. She looked up to meet his odd gaze and turned away, feeling a bit embarrassed.
To him, there was absolutely no need to live such a penny-pinching life. Likewise, the former her had never worried about livelihood; during the Gu Family’s heyday, she couldn’t even imagine that there were people in the world who couldn’t afford food.
In fact, the bankruptcy of the Gu Family might not be a bad thing. She got to experience the warmth and coldness of human relationships, realized the suffering of the world, and did not want to be a frog in a well. She was still young, and everything could start anew.
So, there’s nothing embarrassing about it; she owed no one anything.
