The Seventh Base Chapter 528

Chapter 528: Chapter 7 Yekaterina’s Predicament

Ross went bankrupt, losing all the money he borrowed, and now he didn’t have a penny to his name; not only that, but he also owed a huge debt.

In Lucas University, acting as a middleman was a business that promised huge profits, so he first found students from the Engineering Department to assess the value of the equipment and the approximate cost of necessary repairs, making sure everything was foolproof—after all, specialization has its own expertise.

At first, everything went smoothly, business grew bigger and his profits soared. He began to invest more and would have used leverage without hesitation if he could.

To get rich quickly, you need either incredible luck or to use leverage, and when opportunities far outweigh the risks, you go for it.

And indeed, he did just that. So, aside from borrowing money from Xu Mo, he borrowed some more from classmates. He finally decided to make a big move, purchasing several second-hand pieces of equipment with very high value, and the price tag from the other party was not cheap either, which actually gave him more security. The evaluation was problem-free as well.

But once the goods were in his hands, everything changed.

The core components of the equipment he purchased were destroyed and worthless, and repair costs even exceeded the second-hand value of the equipment itself.

Ross knew he had been scammed. His immediate thought was that the evaluator he hired had colluded with the seller to con him, but he couldn’t understand why—after all, the seller also had a certain status, so why would they scam him?

As for the evaluator from the Engineering Department, he denied everything, just claiming that he made an oversight.

An oversight in a professional matter? And not just for one item—did they think he was an idiot?

This incident made Ross reflect. The belief held by the Tard people that human nature is dark and money is paramount was indeed absolutely correct.

However… now wasn’t the time to talk about beliefs, as classmates were clamoring for him to pay back the money.

And, he owed Xu Mo a substantial amount of money!

Under normal circumstances, there was no way he could pay it back.

Unless he had the capital to make a comeback!

Thus, Ross once again sought out Xu Mo.

“You’re saying you need to borrow another sum of money?” Xu Mo looked at Ross and said.

“Yes, I’ve already made a big profit before and now I need to increase the investment—it’s the perfect time. You get sixty percent of the profits and I get forty,” Ross said confidently, enticing Xu Mo, “It’s a rare opportunity.”

“Oh,” Xu Mo said, looking at Ross meaningfully. Was this bastard trying to deceive him again?

“Since the opportunity is so good, you can make the profits on your own. I invested in you because I liked what I saw, it doesn’t matter how much you make. Good luck.” Xu Mo patted Ross on the shoulder.

Ross opened his mouth, looking at Xu Mo. Being quite short, he had to look up to see Xu Mo, and for once, the eloquent Ross didn’t know what to say.

“You didn’t lose money, did you?” Xu Mo asked quietly, seeing Ross’s expression.

“How could that be possible!” Ross denied vehemently, “The great Tard people will never fail on the battlefield of business.”

Seeing Ross’s emphatic expression, Xu Mo admired the Tard people’s excellent acting skills.

No wonder they could plunder wealth. Apart from having brilliant economic minds, their cunning characters and excellent acting were also indispensable parts.

“That’s good,” Xu Mo said, reassured, patting Ross on the shoulder, “Keep it up, I have faith in you.”

“Don’t worry,” Ross nodded, turned, and walked away. After a few steps, he stopped, turned back to look at Xu Mo, who was reading, and said, “Won’t you reconsider? What about eighty percent of the profits for you and twenty for me?”

Xu Mo shook his head, and finally, Ross left ‘reluctantly.’

After his departure, from another row of bookshelves, Ize came over; he had been frequenting the Library lately.

Watching Ross’s retreating back, Ize said, “The Tard people indeed live up to their reputation—sly and deceitful.”

“Yeah, he conned me into the first investment, and now he’s trying to scam me a second time; it’s despicable,” Xu Mo remarked.

“When dealing with Tard people, you need to be careful not to fall into their traps,” Ize warned.

“I will,” Xu Mo nodded earnestly.

“By the way, he’s not going to scam others, right? Like borrowing from the bank or other students,” Xu Mo said. “I’d prefer not to see others being deceived too.”

“Don’t worry, the interstellar bank will blacklist him; he won’t be able to borrow a penny,” Ize said. “Besides, I’ll spread the news that he doesn’t pay his debts, so he’ll have no chance to commit fraud anymore.”

“Tough break!” Xu Mo muttered.

“What?” Ize asked, looking at Xu Mo.

“I was saying the people who were conned before had it real rough, that’s how such people should be dealt with,” Xu Mo said. “By the way, you can make the interstellar bank blacklist him?”

“My dad is in charge of the interstellar bank,” Ize revealed. Since Xu Mo had shared his own secrets with him, there was no need to hide his identity. As brothers, they should be open with each other.

“A true bro,” Xu Mo patted Ize on the shoulder, nearly moved to tears.

The interstellar bank, the largest treasury of the Star System Alliance.

This brotherhood was set in stone; not even nine bulls could pull it apart!

Ize looked at Xu Mo with some confusion. Xu Mo had hinted at his secret of being from the Anos Royal Family to him; wasn’t it only right for him to be open about his identity too?

And yet it deserved such an emotional response?

Xu Mo was truly an honest man; Ize felt a bit ashamed that he didn’t tell Xu Mo sooner.

“And Carter, I still don’t know his identity?” Xu Mo inquired.
