Aside from driving, Su Yanyi didn’t really like going to hospitals either. She found the smell here extremely repulsive, and the stark white colors unavoidably reminded her of her past life. Fortunately, Su Yanyi’s heart was still very strong; although she disliked it, she wasn’t afraid. After getting out of the car, she maintained a calm and composed demeanor, staying by Qin Jiran’s side, and was respectfully led inside by Zhang Yuanzhuo.
Su Yanyi could feel Zhang Yuanzhuo sizing her up with his eyes, but she didn’t mind it at all. In fact, she had already decided to teach Zhang Yuanzhuo a lesson soon. It was good to be conscientious and responsible at work, but if he disturbed Qin Jiran, or even tried to threaten him, that was his mistake!
Don’t think of Su Yanyi as narrow-minded, because she was exactly that. Anyone who offended those she wanted to protect was remembered by her and would be retaliated against one by one. This was the origin of her reputation for being ruthless.
The saying "A gentleman’s revenge is not too late even after ten years" didn’t apply to Su Yanyi. She was the kind of person who would fiercely take revenge whenever she had the chance, even to the extent of returning a slight with tenfold vengeance. If someone made her suffer even a little, she would make them suffer a great deal more!
As they walked on, Qin Jiran and Su Yanyi amusingly found that the location of this ward seemed quite familiar. Not long ago, they had walked down this very corridor to visit Wang Zhilin. Now, they were doing the same, with Su Yanyi accompanying Qin Jiran to see Old Master Qin—it was quite a coincidence indeed.
But then again, it made sense. This hospital was well-known in A City and even across the country. Where else would these people stay when they fell ill if not here?
Zhang Yuanzhuo knocked on the door of the ward and, after waiting three seconds, pushed it open and entered. He addressed the old man wearing an oxygen mask on the bed: "Old Master Qin, Mr. Qin and Miss Su have arrived."
The old man appeared to be in a semi-comatose state and only after hearing the sound did he slowly and laboriously open his eyes. Though his gaze was somewhat cloudy, it sharpened a little when he saw Qin Jiran, and when he saw Su Yanyi, it was filled with scrutiny and suspicion.
Qin Jiran and Su Yanyi both noticed the old man’s reaction. Feeling a chill in their hearts upon seeing his gaze, they knew that the old man’s attitude toward them was far from kindly.
Su Yanyi sighed inwardly. Indeed, the kind of family one grows up in shapes the kind of children they become. She really should be grateful that Qin Jiran did not grow up in such a family; otherwise, Qin Jiran would have either turned out crooked or lived an even more painful life.
"Finally, you are here," Old Master Qin, Qin Enci, spoke very slowly, word by word—because of his illness making it difficult to speak smoothly but also with an intentional sense of oppression.
Su Yanyi said nothing, just looked coldly at Old Master Qin, leaving it to Qin Jiran to speak.
"Old Mr. Qin, talking too much is not good for your health. So, if you have something to tell me, please do so quickly," said Qin Jiran in a very neutral tone, betraying no emotion, as if looking at a stranger without joy or anger.
Old Master Qin was ill, and even he knew that he didn’t have much longer to live, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t see the meaning behind Qin Jiran’s expression. However, seeing it didn’t imply he believed it!
Old Master Qin knew that Qin Jiran’s behavior indicated his indifference to the Qin family members and their wealth, but Old Master Qin obviously did not believe that. Qin Jiran might not care about the members of the Qin family, but how could he possibly not care about the Qin estate? After all, it was worth tens of billions! Who wouldn’t be tempted by that, when even the current descendants of the Qin family were fighting tooth and nail over it!
