He had thought her statement was made in jest, but to her surprise, Jun Mochan responded quite seriously, "Well, I’m afraid I might not be able to find you."
Ye Ranran looked at him with surprise.
"Alright, don’t just stand there in a daze. Let’s head over there," Jun Mochan said, pinching her cheek.
Ye Ranran swats his hand away. "I have makeup on. Don’t smear it."
There was a lounge at the banquet, but Ye Ranran, worried that Jun Mochan might feel uneasy if he couldn’t see her, chose to sit in a chair nearby instead.
In front of her was a table laden with assorted fruits and pastries, from which she idly picked up a piece.
Just as she was about to bite into it, a person appeared next to her, and an annoyingly familiar voice reached her ears. "Why are you sitting here on your own, Sister?"
Ye Ranran acted as if she hadn’t seen Ye Tianjiao, continuing to munch on her pastry in silence.
"Could it be that Jun Mochan has found someone else and is planning to abandon you?" Ye Tianjiao glanced in Jun Mochan’s direction.
Following her gaze, Ye Ranran found that Feng Xi had somehow managed to attach herself to Jun Mochan once more.
She must have seized the opportunity the moment Ye Ranran had left.
"Thanks for your concern, but my husband and I are doing just fine," Ye Ranran retorted.
"Really? Are you sure no one can break you two apart, or are you just hoping that Jun Mochan can resist temptation?" Ye Tianjiao provocatively swirled the red wine in her glass.
Not wanting to continue this pointless conversation, Ye Ranran got up and headed for the lounge.
The room was empty and quiet, allowing her tightly wound nerves to relax a little. She daringly slipped off her shoes and stretched her feet.
But fearing that someone might come in, she quickly put them back on.
After resting for about ten minutes, Ye Ranran was about to leave. But before she could stand, a stumbling figure entered through the doorway.
Who else could it be but Gao Han?
He seemed drunk, unsteady on his feet. As he approached, a strong smell of alcohol invaded Ye Ranran’s senses.
Gao Han seemed to realize there was someone else in the room and stopped in his tracks. He stared at her for a moment before tentatively calling out, "Ranran?"
Ye Ranran ignored him. Seeing that he had moved away from the doorway, she tried to leave.
But as she passed him, Gao Han grabbed her hand. Feeling her familiar warmth, he nodded. "I knew it was you, Ranran."
Her hand always felt so warm, just like her smile.
"Let go of me," Ye Ranran struggled.
Gao Han tightened his grip. "No, I won’t. It’s strange. I miss you."
He didn’t understand why. Where had things gone wrong?
Wasn’t he in love with Ye Tianjiao? Didn’t he wish to be with her? Then why was he feeling upset now that he got what he wished for?
"You’re drunk," Ye Ranran protested, unable to free her hand. "You’re supposed to think about Ye Tianjiao, not me." With that, she tries to step on Gao Han’s foot.
The high heels she was wearing dug into Gao Han’s shoe. Yelling in pain, he stumbled on top of her.
How could she hold him up? They both fell onto the couch with him on top of her.
"Get off me," Ye Ranran cried, trying to push him off.
What if someone saw them in this compromising situation? How would Jun Mochan think of her? She couldn’t bear to think about it.
She regretted wearing such high heels tonight. Had she not, she would have never left Jun Mochan’s side and gotten herself into this mess.
