Ye Ranran had just finished chatting with Aunt Bao, a smile lighting up her face as she picked up Luo Qi’s call.
"Xiao Qi, it’s quite late. Aren’t you busy rolling around in bed with your husband Ah Chuan? Why the interest in calling me?"
"Ranran, is Jun Mochan at home right now?"
"Should be, I reckon. I don’t know what he’s up to. Why do you ask?" After dinner he seemed to head off to the study. She and Aunt Bao had been together the whole time, so she hadn’t really paid him any mind.
"You need to go check on him." Luo Qi urged her.
There was something off about her tone. Ye Ranran questioned in confusion, "What’s wrong? Do you need something from him?"
While speaking, Ye Ranran pushed open the door to the study. The room was empty, plunged in absolute darkness.
"He just called Ah Chuan. I heard a woman’s voice on his end of the phone line. The voice sounded like Su Yu’s. She was drunk. Jun Mochan even told Ah Chuan to notify the media."
"Notify the media of what?"
A drunk woman, one infatuated with him no less. What could possibly happen, she wondered?
Guessing that possibility, Ye Ranran’s face turned deathly pale in an instant.
"I remember he told Ah Chuan he was at the AlQasr Hotel now, you should..."
Just as Luo Qi was about to complete her sentence, the phone was snatched from her grasp.
Ah Chuan abruptly hung up, his face serious, "Luo Qi, what are you up to?"
"What did I do? I merely informed my good friend that her husband’s currently out with her rival. What’s wrong with that?"
So it’s only okay for him to cover up for Jun Mochan, but not for her to tip off her good friend?
"Sir Jun would never betray Madam. Don’t you know how much he loves her?" Ah Chuan massaged his temples, completely vexed.
"Love? Before a man possesses his woman, he may love her. But what happens afterward? Can any of us truly guarantee it?"
Su Yu was a passionate woman. Few men could resist her charms. Who knew whether Jun Mochan might impulsively fancy a change?
"Luo Qi, I didn’t realize you were this sly and shrewd."
"Well, I could...hmm, hmm, hmm..." Her words were muffled by Ah Chuan.
He had initially intended to tease her just a bit, but her beauty made him lose control, and he overstepped his bounds.
After the call ended, Ye Ranran stood rooted to the spot, her eyes reflecting her bewilderment, uncertain of what to do next.
Though she had faith in Jun Mochan, it still frazzled her that he would go out so late at night, especially given he was currently with Su Yu.
It was only then that she came to realize, Su Yu was out and about. When had it happened? Why was she with Jun Mochan?
Did Jun Mochan know of this? Did he aid her behind her back?
She wasn’t aware of any of this.
Logically, she knew she shouldn’t overthink this, but she couldn’t help it, possibly because Aunt Bao mentioned that long-forgotten name.
Memories of the unforgettable past flashed before her eyes.
Remnants of the past were suffocating her.
Just as she was attempting to purge those unwanted memory fragments, her phone rang again.
The beautiful piano melody in the silence of the night felt more like a death knell.
Startled, Ye Ranran’s grip slipped, and her mobile fell from her hands.
She bent down slowly to pick it up, a smile playing on her lips as she answered the call, "Who’s this?"
"Charm Bar, there’s something here you’d be interested in. Get here fast, or you might miss it." Feng Xi’s voice came through the speakers.
"Did Xie Yuan make you call?"
Recently, Feng Xi, too, had been having a tough time due to Xie Yuan being suppressed by Jun Mochan.
At the moment, he seemed to be in hibernation.
"Whatever you think. I’ve passed on the message, believe it or not, I don’t care." Feng Xi hung up.
