The Way of Basketball: Never Talk Shit to Him! Chapter 181

Those who fought back received even more serious injuries, the likes of Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker, who didn’t even dare to lift their arms. One look and you knew, they probably suffered bone or muscle injuries.

Of course, the worst off was Popovich.

Lying motionless on the ground, whether dead or alive was unknown.

A puddle of yellow liquid beneath him, no one knew whether it was urine or diarrhea.

When the medical staff rushed over to check on him, they broke out in a cold sweat, only breathing a sigh of relief when they felt his breath under his nose.

It seemed to be a temporary fainting due to lack of oxygen.

But even with such a sorry state, when the medics carried him away, there were still dissatisfied jeers from the crowd.

This guy was just disgusting!

San Antonio fans pulled dirty tricks, and he never said a damn word.

When it was Indiana’s turn to play tricks, he complained it was the dirtiest away game he’d ever played.

When Bruce Bowen got other teams’ key players out for the season, he’d insist it was an unavoidable part of the game.

But as soon as Tim Duncan got injured, he immediately called it murder.

Thinking they could mess with Su Wan?

Their hatred for the hypocritical Popovich had reached its peak.

Then Tim Duncan and Bruce Bowen were also carried off, leaving the medical staff running back and forth, exhausted. It was the most tiring day they’d ever experienced.

Some who had previously worked in hospitals were reminded of the hectic times responding to car accidents.

Reporters at the scene were still trying to settle their nerves as they organized their photos.

Tonight’s chaos could be dubbed "The Second Auburn Palace Incident". No, it should be called "The Conseco Incident".

Unlike the "Auburn Hills Incident"...

The Spurs didn’t have the same fighting strength, they were not like Artest or Stephen Jackson who could take on a group single-handedly.

They were ones getting thrashed by a group!

The referees, after painstakingly reviewing the footage, ejected all of the Spurs’ starters and key substitutes because they all had thrown punches.

Only a few "Water Dispenser" players were left to continue the unfinished game.

On the Pacers’ side, Foster and Su Wan were ejected from the game.

The rest were all retained.

As Su Wan and Foster left, they received a hero’s ovation from the entire audience.

"I’m even more convinced I did the right thing," Foster said.

"There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that thought!" Su Wan patted his back in agreement, "Jeff, let me teach you a Chinese idiom... it’s called ’eliminating harm for the people!’"

"Eliminating harm for the people..." Foster repeated clumsily, then asked, "What does it mean?"

Su Wan: "What we did tonight, that’s eliminating harm for the people!"

As they approached the locker room, they saw Jermaine hobbling out on crutches, in a great hurry.

"You guys got ejected? I heard that the audience also rushed onto the court, what’s the situation, what about the others? Do we have more key players left, or do they? Do we stand a chance to win today’s game?"

"Don’t get worked up, Jermaine..." Seeing his agitation, Su Wan, along with Foster, one on each side, supported him, "The entire Spurs team is down, just a few water dispensers are left playing on the court. Forget about winning tonight’s game, the next game is in the bag for us too."

"What... what exactly happened?"

"Let Jeff tell you, I need to rest for a bit, I have a bunch of reporters to deal with later on." Su Wan said as he headed back to the locker room first.

Foster didn’t beat around the bush, without playing coy, he simply added a bit of verbal flair and dramatic storytelling to recount everything that had happened after little O’Neal left the court.

Little O’Neal was completely stunned; the situation sounded too... crazy.

"We won’t get in trouble for this, will we?" he asked, concerned.

Foster echoed the lesson he just learned: "Let me teach you a Chinese idiom, Jermaine, what we did tonight was... ’minimizing damage while creating excitement!’"

Good, with announcer’s flair!

As expected, Su Wan and little O’Neal were benched, but there were Tinsley, Stephen Jessica, and Reggie Miller left among others on the Pacers’ side. As for the Spurs’ team, it was almost as if the Indiana natives knew the game wasn’t over tonight and deliberately left six or seven players.

The difference in strength between the two sides was clear. The Pacers were already ten points ahead, and eventually won comfortably by 87 to 73, a 14-point lead.

That put the series standings at 3-1.

But at this point, the score hardly mattered.

Every broadcast studio was discussing the just-occurred chaos that rivaled the Auburn Hills Incident, the "Conseco Brawl".

"The Spurs’ actions were too outrageous. Starting from the second round of the playoffs, they’ve been causing injuries to opposing players. They should’ve been punished long ago. Honestly, I always felt that the League has been too lenient on players like Bruce Bowen. It’s precisely this leniency that led to tonight’s fiasco. No team’s fans want to see their team miss out on the Championship Trophy because a player trips someone else, especially when we all know how much the Indiana Pacers crave that Championship Trophy. Gregg is playing with fire, and ultimately he got burned himself!"

"I heard he wanted Su Wan to end up like Tim Duncan, with an arm in a Naked Strangle."

"Well, him ending up on a stretcher serves him right. Who doesn’t know what Su Wan means to Indiana right now! He dared to say such things to Su on the Pacers’ home court."

...

"The Spurs are likely in for some trouble! Not just this season, but next season too. Judging by the League’s penalties from last year’s Auburn Hills Incident, they’ll have a bunch of people facing suspensions of 20 games, or even more. And with Tim Duncan’s injury... it’s feared that the Spurs’ record of seven consecutive playoff appearances will be broken next April."
