Alix excused herself immediately and locked herself inside of the bathroom in the bedroom.
"Stay out of the game." The system told her.
"Huh!" a small sound escaped her lips.
Even though she was temporarily locked out of the game by the system she could still see was happening in the game.
[Unusual player data observed. Scanning the virtual servers.]
Du dum, Du dum, Du dum. The sound of her heart beating was so loud in her ears. It was like a herd of elephants was stomping their hooves on the ground.
[Deleting unusual data.]
[Banning player character.]
[Resetting character to initial settings.]
"Hey, blue elf, is it my character?" she whispered.
After whispering, she felt rather stupid. Who was around to overhear her? Her biggest worry was the silence which the system maintained.
[Scan completed, gaming universe re-opened.]
Alix's hands were itching to connect and enter the lucky virtual gaming universe but she could not do so without confirmation from the system.
She could still see the gaming world and her character was frozen just as it had been when she logged out. The words activate were above it's head. That had to mean she was still a player.
"System." she called in her mind.
Ding! system upgrading, one minute of inactivity.
Alix sighed loudly and fell back on the bed. It was over, she was surely in the clear.
Not everyone was sighing with relief as she was because in the hospital, Lin Billi was seething in anger. She had a phone in hand and she was stalking Alix on weibo.
The pictures Alix had posted of herself, elder Tai and Rex Xiao Dan had made her infuriated. Billi was like a volcano filled with bubbling boiling magma at this point. One small thing and she would be tipped over, burning everything in her way.
Jing Hee was cooling down soup for Billi to drink by the table so she couldn't see the anger on her daughter's eyes.
"Mother, just look at how she is having a good time. She even met the famous national painter and the former chairman of TFK."
Jing Hee run a hand through her hair and scowled. Ever since Billi landed in the hospital, it had been Alix this, or Alix that everyday.
Why was Billi obsessing over Alix even more than usual? Why couldn't her daughter be more confident in herself? Alix was not great, and she was not a threat in anyway. Why, just why was Billi obsessing?
"Stop it." she yelled. She walked over to her and grabbed the phone out of her hands.
She grabbed Billi's hands and looked at her with a plea in her eyes.
"Please, Billi, stop. I promised you that I would deal with her so stop all this and concentrate on your recovery. You have been in he hospital for so many days now but you have not been listening to any classical music or written a composition. You have not thought about the important things related to your career and all you do is scream Alix, Alix, Alix all day."
"How can I think when she is everywhere?" Billi yelled. She even looked around as if Alix's ghost was somewhere in the room at that very moment.
"Where?" Jing Hee yelled back at her. "Where is she except in your imagination? You cannot have a one track mind my dear. You can make plans to destroy Alix while planning to further your career as well."
The door to the room opened and Jing Hee sealed her mouth. Lin Qianfan and grandma Lin walked into the room. With them was Lin Erya, her aunt.
"Grandma.." Billi whined.
"Billi dear.." her grandmother responded in a worried voice. "Why didn't anyone call me and tell me that you slipped and fell? I would have come quickly to take care of you if I had known."
She pushed Jing Hee aside and sat where she had been, taking a hold of Billi's hands.
"What happened?"
Billi sniveled and said, "It was that wench....."
Lin Qianfan coughed rather loudly and took long strides, approaching the bed as well. He stood by the bed behind Billi, lowered his hand and pressed down hard on her shoulder.
"The housekeeper used too much detergent and it caused her to slip." he said.
Billi looked up at him with an unwillingness in her eyes. She wanted to rat out and tell grandma Lin the truth. Their grandmother would surely not hesitate to give Alix a hard time. She would beat up that wench for her just as she had always done while they were growing up.
Qianfan however warned her with an intense threatening gaze. If she said anything other than what was signed in the agreement he made with the Zhang's she would suffer the consequences.
Nobody would save him from his wrath if she cost him the business deal which he had worked hard to save.
"What is wrong with both of you?" grandma Lin asked father and daughter.
Their body language was off, it was tense. They seemed to have a lot of unspoken secrets which they were not exposing.
"Nothing, Billi is just sulking because she didn't get to play her song for director Ban." Jing Hee laughed awkwardly and said.
"Oh, she is worried about her career." grandma Lin said and she smiled fondly at Billi. She shifted her body closer and patted Billi's head. "As expected of my good granddaughter. She is always thinking about how to go further in life. She is not like that useless one who does nothing but annoy me."
Grandma Lin looked around the room, her eyes darting from side to side as she searched for someone.
"Where is that girl? Her sister is injured. Shouldn't she be here serving her?"
She looked at her son quizzically. "Qianfan why isn't Alix here?"
Lin Qianfan found his mother's question quite ridiculous. Had she forgotten that Alix was part of the Zhang's now? "She should be at the Zhang family's home now. Mother, she is married and she cannot just come over anyhow." he answered.
The more Alix interacted with the Zhang's the better. Maybe someday she would be a shareholder in Zhang group.
Grandma Lin was of a different opinion however. With a sneer on her face she said, "So what if she is married? Her family name is still Lin and not Zhang." She banged her walking cane on the floor and said somberly, "Hurry up, call her up and tell her that I want her here right now taking care of her sister."
"I don't think she will come." Lin Billi said, with a pout. "Sister blocked all of us. We cannot reach her on phone anymore. She is busy living a good life and interacting with rich people. She even shared pictures of herself eating and dancing with elder Tai of TFK jewelry and national painter Ren Xiao Dan." Billi sighed and faked a sad look. "We are not good enough for sister anymore."
