The back was filled with the shrieks of octopuses, akin to a pig slaughterhouse.
People turned to look and saw a scene even more grisly: one by one, the octopuses’ skin turned bright red, their hot bodies sizzling and emitting smoke, even exploding, the corrosive acid of their bodies serving to erode everything around them.
Acid rained from the sky in a sporadic shower, many people doused on the spot, dying with incomplete bodies in agonizing pain, their faces half-eaten away, a horrifying sight to behold.
Screams filled the air as the players at the back saw a huge wave of deaths.
"Have these octopuses gone mad?!"
Jack was astonished, in all his years as a pirate, he had never seen octopuses go berserk !
"Get out of the way!" Someone yelled urgently.
But actually, there was no need to speak; under the threat of life, all players in the back fled the scene immediately.
Although there were opportunities to resurrect, such a massive group of octopuses was not going to be a one-death-and-done situation. Almost immediately after revival, they would die again; who would dare to stay?
Fortunately, it seemed these octopuses weren’t particularly interested in chasing people. The reason they’d gone berserk was to carve out a path.
With the path clear, the octopuses hurriedly rushed towards the distant temple.
"They’re definitely after that guy!"
The demon watching the behavior of the octopuses after their fit of rampage, was even more convinced of this.
"Wonder what this person did to the octopuses to generate such firm hostility..."
"This person... seems to be rushing towards the temple even faster..."
"What on earth is he trying to do? What’s in that temple?"
"Seems to be related to these octopuses..."
"Is he not running away? Does he want to die?"
Now that the octopuses had shifted their wrath, spectators finally had the chance to analyze the current situation.
As they watched the scene of the octopuses and the Ghost Captain racing towards the temple, everyone was somewhat baffled. What could be so valuable that they’d put their lives on the line to get to it?
However, as he listened to the surrounding discussions, the Son of Heaven grew increasingly uneasy.
Combining the initial behavior of the octopuses and the current situation, a thought suddenly flashed in his mind, recognizing a possible scenario, and his face changed in color.
As he spoke, the Son of Heaven was the first to release a long-range spell. Large quantities of lightning and shadow energy were emitted, heading straight for the Ghost Captain, trying to prevent him from getting near the temple.
However, it was obviously too late.
The octopuses that had charged past their defenses now formed a natural barrier, completely blocking the space between them and the Ghost Captain, making it impossible for magic to lock onto its target.
The next second, countless octopuses covered the temple, causing it to collapse instantly, kicking up a cloud of dust.
The octopuses quickly piled up on the collapsed grass heap, forming a small mountain nearly tens of meters high, completely engulfing the space surrounding the temple.
"The guy is done for!"
People sighed at the sight.
To think the mighty Ghost Captain would end up dying at the hands of a bunch of octopuses .
"Haha, regardless of what was inside, was it worth dying for a treasure?" Jack sneered with disdain.
With this man dead, it was a piece of good news for them, reducing one competitor at least.
"I’m afraid..." The Son of Heaven’s voice rang out from the side.
When Jack turned his head and saw him, he found that the Son of Heaven did not show any joy, but instead looked bitter.
"Afraid of what?" Jack asked subconsciously.
The Son of Heaven gave no answer, and indeed, there was no need for him to answer.
Suddenly, a rumbling sound came from the mound of octopuses in the distance.
The dome of the heap split apart abruptly, and countless octopuses parted to either side, soon revealing the hidden scene below.
A familiar figure stood steadily at the exact spot where the temple used to be.
It was the Ghost Captain! Not only was he alive, but he was also uninjured.
Furthermore, in his hand he held a bright red organ, wrapped in an ice-like transparent substance. The organ inside was still beating as if alive.
But even more bizarre were the octopuses surrounding him. The ruthless, furious octopuses were now exceptionally quiet, trembling as they lay prone, even lowering their heads to the ground in a posture of submission.
The crowd was stunned.
What on earth was happening?
What had transpired in that ruined temple?
What had the Ghost Captain done to cause such a drastic change in the octopuses?
Everyone was momentarily at a loss for answers.
Just as everyone stood there bewildered, Mu You suddenly stretched out his hand, pointing at the crowd.
With his gesture, all the octopuses on the ground simultaneously lifted their heads, turned to face the crowd, and then began to move towards the crowd, quickening their pace.
In an instant, the quiet octopuses had once again transformed into the surging wave from before, sweeping towards the crowd.
"What the hell is going on?"
Although Jack and the others were flabbergasted, they didn’t hesitate to turn and run.
The situation had once more resulted in the crowd fleeing in front, with a torrent of octopuses pursuing them from behind.
The only difference was that this time, the target of the octopuses was not Mu You, but every human being apart from him.
