"Sharp-tongued!" Mason Nightshade squinted his eyes and suddenly stood up, his tall figure pressing towards Aurelia Shaw. Startled, Aurelia stepped back. Aurelia’s pupils contracted sharply, retreating back, her spine against the sofa leaving her nowhere to retreat. Before she could react, the world spun around her as Mason rolled to the ground with her, the shirt’s fabric brushing against Aurelia’s skin, making her fingers momentarily slacken. Suddenly her wrist ached slightly, and taking advantage of her distraction, the man snatched the dagger from her hand, pressing the cold blade against her neck.
Aurelia’s body stiffened, tensing all over, not daring to move, her lowered eyes fixed on the meticulously polished blade.
Her skills were quite good, but her opponent was Mason Nightshade. Even in his most engrossed state, Mason could sense danger in an instant and react, which had become almost instinctual for him.
