The adults all empathized with each other. If they could provide a better future for their own children, why would they push them into a pit of fire?

Granny Li’s granddaughter scolded Gou Dan rudely, using the scoldings as a way to vent her friend’s frustrations.
Although Gou Dan had helped his friend, many issues had also arisen because of him.
Gou Dan fancied Daya and even joked privately with his friends about marrying Daya as his wife. She certainly knew about it and agreed with some friends that Gou Dan was delusional.
Ye Luoqi didn’t pay much attention to him, fine!
"Ye Meicai, go take a look at Daya, see how she’s doing!"
Ye Jiaxing endured the scoldings, now not caring about the loss of face, more focused on just knowing Daya’s current situation.
"Hehe, why don’t you go check? Scared to enter, right? I think you should forget it, don’t bother Daya, she will be fine."
As a friend of Daya, Ye Meicai actually hoped she would marry into a better family.
Her own parents also hoped to find a better family for her as she grew older.

"I will go see Daya, but not for you."
The reason Ye Meicai and her siblings hadn’t entered the Ye family estate, where such lively events were occurring, was also because Mrs. Lai disliked their family.
Mrs. Lai had been scolding people at the gate of the courtyard all day, and the villagers were too scared to enter, not wanting to court bad luck.
"Sis, if that old geezer hits you when you go in, you must run out, don’t let him actually hit you."
Hearing her brother’s worried voice, Ye Meicai nodded; their home was so close that they could hear Matchmaker Zhang being beaten.
Watching Ye Meicai walk out the door, Ye Jiaxing’s lips curled up in a slight smile.
"Come in and play chess." Zhong Ting being the eldest at home, his younger brother couldn’t play chess with him, and his little sister wasn’t able to play chess either.
Usually, some friends would visit relatives, and only their parents, his father working at the Ye estate and his mother and grandmother besides visiting relatives, also did part-time work there.
In the next few days, the Ye estate was rumored to begin major construction, and many would be hired. Even he, still a lad, was considering earning some money by working.
The days to play were just these few days.
Ye Jiaxing felt bored these past days as his buddies hadn’t sought him out to hang out; waiting around was pointless, so he agreed to play chess together.
Ye Meicai arrived at the site where Daya’s house was being built, seeing the deeply dug foundation where the adults had started building with large stones. Some were working in the foundation, while others dug up and transported large stones back.
In just less than a day, with the foundation laid and stones and soil transported, the collective effort sped up the work, accomplishing in half a day what others took days to do.
One could imagine, in three days, it wouldn’t be impossible to see a house built and completed.
She didn’t think much of it and entered the courtyard, just as she caught Mrs. Lai’s fierce gaze. She dared not meet the old woman’s eyes and quickly flitted past her.
"Why are you here? How dare you come to our house? Aren’t you afraid to run?"
Mrs. Lai felt a strong dislike toward Granny Li’s granddaughter, actually toward all of Granny Li’s family, feeling discontent with her eldest son and his wife for being close to them and disregarding her wishes, occasionally bringing gifts to her home.
Mrs. Lai had always been annoyed and held a grudge.
She wanted to hit the child but, unfortunately, couldn’t catch up with the kids. Previously, after running several rounds trying to catch and beat Matchmaker Zhang, she was now so exhausted that her back ached, her legs were numb, and she could only sit on a chair and scold, unable to support her body to move.
Mrs. Lai’s mouth also hurt from all the scolding, but despite the pain, seeing someone she disliked spurred her to scold.
Ye Meicai dashed into the courtyard and headed straight to Ye Luoqi’s room.
Seeing that her door was closed, she stealthily glanced back, didn’t see Mrs. Lai coming to hit her, and while knocking on the door, said, "Daya, are you in there?"
Soon after, Ye Mei Qi opened the door, saw that it was Ye Meicai, and let her in.
"Ye Meicai, I’m here in the courtyard, and you dare to come?"
As Ye Meicai entered, she saw all five Ye sisters were there.
"I heard some noise and got a bit worried. I’m quick-witted, your grandma couldn’t have hit me, hehe."
