Shu Yan was taken aback a the time. She was right, why did she think that?
Was it because she had already considered marrying him? Was that why she had gotten all the way there?
Shu Yan thought about a lot. It was undeniable that she was interested in Feng Zeyu, so it was only normal that she would think about that. They were both up there in age and have both been through a lot in their lives. They were not like the youngsters who could just get together when they feel like it and split when they don’t anymore. Getting married is a big deal. Not to mention that she had two children with her. That being said, she shouldn’t overthink either. If she was to overthink it all, she might as well just give up on the idea of getting married again and just be with her children.
Finally, Shu Yan decided to give both of them a chance. She was only 25 years old. Even if she was over 30 years old mentally, she still looked forward to romance and marriage. She would like to have a partner; she was afraid of being alone.
“Is that a yes, Shu Yan?” came Feng Zeyu’s happy voice.
“I am only giving you an opportunity.” Shu Yan emphasized her point.
“Okay, you promised.” Came a hearty laugh. Then Feng Zeyu said excitedly, “I’ll try very hard. You will be me, Feng Zeyu’s, wife.”
“How much have you drink? You should get ready and go to bed,” said Shu Yan and hung up the phone. Leaning on the couch, she was deep in thought.
“Mom.” JingJing handed her a glass of warm water.
“Thank you! Why are you still up? You have school tomorrow.” Shu Yan looked at the time. It was almost 10 PM. It was late for a child.
“Mom, little bother said you are going to get us a new dad. Is it going to be Uncle Feng?” JingJing looked at Shu Yan nervously.
Shu Yan hadn’t expected that Tianbao would talk to JingJing about that. The two of them had been getting closer and closer with each other and sometimes they would have secrets that they kept from their mother.
“Do you… not like the idea?” Shu Yan asked her equally cautiously.
JingJing lowered her head. “Whatever mom wants to do.”
Shu Yan got it now. She didn’t want her to get married again but she also worried that say so would upset her.
Tianbao was still young and didn’t know much. He was probably influenced by his classmate and didn’t think it would be a big deal. JingJing, on the other hand, was more mature. If she was to get remarried, they wouldn’t be her entire universe like they were now.
Shu Yan picked up JingJing’s hand and said to her very seriously. “JingJing, you have always been a smart girl so Mom is going to treat you like an adult today and tell you my real thoughts. I married your father when I was 17 years old and gave birth to you when I was 18. I didn’t even know what was going on when I became a mother. Back then… Mom had wronged you. Do you blame me?”
JingJing was startled when she heard her mother apologized to her. Then her eyes reddened. “Mom, you…”
“Mom had been wanting to apologize to you but I just couldn’t bring myself to until now.” Shu Yan gave JingJing a hug and patted her gently on her head. “Mom recognized her own fault, which was why she divorced your father and started a new life with you two in City Nan. JingJing, mom worked hard for the two of you. I never thought about giving up on you two even during the worst and most tiring time, so I am not going to abandon you two now.”
JingJing cried softly. It was said that kids don’t have long-lasting memories but how’d they forget something that was burned into their memories? JingJing had lived in days when she could be abandoned at any given moment, which was why she lacked the sense of security. She worried very much that Mom would abandon her again when she found a new father.
“Don’t cry, JingJing. Just remember carefully that Mom will always love you, always hold your hands and never let go of it.”
“Then Mom can’t abandon JingJing when you are with Uncle Feng.”
So she had agreed to it then?
“Mom is not with Uncle Feng yet. We are going to get to know each other first. And he had to pass your tests before I say yes to him,” said Shu Yan tapped JingJing on her nose.
