“You are going to get married after knowing each other for just three months?” Shu Yan had heard some about Shu Jianyang, that he switched girlfriends like it was nobody’s business. After all, in his previous environment, many women would throw themselves at him. He was no saint and it was only normal for him to be with anyone who met his eyes. This girl sounded nice and Shu Yan couldn't help but added, “Third Brother, this girl graduated from college and is a teacher. She is a nice girl from a nice family. You should think twice about this.”
Shu Jianyang scratched his head. “What are you talking about? I have been so busy the past year that I had no time for money. Besides, I was never serious in the past. None of them were like Miaomiao. I am doing legit businesses now and had slowly severed my ties with my old days. Don’t worry. Your Third Brother is now a changed man. I only want to be with Miaomiao. It really isn’t that fast. Remember matchmaking back in our hometown? People usually get married after they have only seen other a few times. Miaomiao and I had been dating for at least two months. Mainly we are not young anymore. There’s no reason not to get married if we hit it off. Em…… Are you coming to my wedding?”
Truth was, for someone like Shu Jianyang who had had a past in the red-light district, he would most likely be more faithful than a man who hasn’t once he decided that he wanted to settle down. He had already seen all sorts of women and would be hard to seduce. An honest man, on the other hand, just might not be able to resist seductive women after they were married, should they run into one.
“When is it going to be?” Shu Yan recollected herself. It sounded like her Third Brother had his mind set on being with Miaomiao. That was good to know.
“Over the new year time frame. You haven’t been back in a while. Besides, you have already settled the matters with your folks, might as well make a trip back. I will be hosting my banquet in the city. You don’t need to go back to the village. It wouldn’t matter if you do either. Nobody would let Second Uncle and Second Aunty bully you.” Shu Jianyang felt that Shu Yan’s decision on building the road was a great decision. Shu Yan now has a great reputation within 10 miles and 8 villages of their hometown.
“Oh alright. I will bring my children and Feng Zeyu with me when the time comes. You can help me check him out,” said Shu Yan with a smile.
“Alrighty. That’s settled then. I’ll be waiting for your return.”
She asked Feng Zeyu after work. “Remember my Third Brother that had helped me a lot in the past? He will be getting married around the new year time frame. Come with me then?”
Feng Zeyu gave Shu Yan a happy look. “I can go too?” Meeting her parents was a very meaningful move.
“Watch the road. You are driving.” Shu Yan adjusted her posture and relaxed on the chair. Smiling slightly, she said, “Of course. I had signed an agreement with my folks last time but who knew what could happen. I just might need your protection.”
“Don’t worry. I will protect you,” said Feng Zeyu seriously.
Shu Yan smiled and held his hand, her dimples showing. She felt particularly assured.
When they arrived ho, the children were not back yet. Nanshan Grade School was 40 minutes car ride away. As Shu Yan had been going to and from work with Feng Zeyu, she no longer needed to use her company car. Shu Yan had reassigned that to pick up and drop off her children and swapped the chauffeur out to one of Feng Zeyu’s employees. He was a driver back in the troops so his driving skill was guaranteed. Mainly that being a veteran from Feng Zeyu’s troop, he could also double as a bodyguard. Shu Yan was very comfortable with him picking up and dropping off the kids.
Aunty started prepared dinner half an hour later than normal and finished the same time the children arrived home.
The two children were in their school uniforms and they looked good. Shu Yan felt that JingJing, in particular, even her temperament had changed.
“Mom. The school has some activities tomorrow and they asked for both parents to be there,” said Tianbao to Shu Yan as blinked to her and put down his book bag.
“Both parents must be there?” All students of Nanshan Kindergarten were from somewhat decent families. Would their parents have time for these types of activities?
“Our teacher said this is a once-a-semester event and both parents are required to attend,” said Tianbao in all his seriousness.
That meant that the other parents would be there as well? Shu Yan smacked herself on her forehead. She was being silly. Why wouldn’t she want to go? This was essentially a gathering of the rich and famous. She was there to attend her kid’s activity but it was also an opportunity for her to make friends from high places.
Of course she must attend but where was she going to find him a father?
“Why don’t you have Uncle Fang go with you?” said JingJing calmly when she saw Shu Yan troubled.
Shu Yan looked at JingJing, surprised, “You… don’t mind?”
JingJing gave Shu Yan a dubious look. “I have never objected either!”
Why else would she be okay travelling with them? Besides, Uncle Fang came over for dinner all the time and went to work and get off work with her mother. She never objected to any of them. “I don’t object to it but I won’t refer to him as Dad either.” JingJing didn’t like her own father but she also didn’t want to refer to someone outside of the family as Dad.
“I do! Let’s have Uncle Fang be my Dad and come with Mom to my activity!” Tianbao had no problem with that at all.
JingJing casted a look at Tianbao, her lips moved but she finally didn’t make a sound.
“Then… I will tell Uncle F…. Dad in a little while.”
