Uprising: My Life in a Video Game Chapter 20

Chapter 20 - 20: Quest

Vorden stepped out of the library, rubbing his temples. He had spent the entire break period trying to understand the world he was stuck in, and now his brain felt like it had run a marathon. He was exhausted—but at the same time, a strange mix of emotions swirled inside him.

On one hand, he was relieved to finally have some solid information. On the other, he was beginning to realize just how different this place was from the real world.

The world was structured in a simple but rigid hierarchy:

Dominion (Equivalent to a country) – Ruled by a Sovereign. This was the highest authority in any region.

Territory (Similar to a state) – Ruled by a Viceroy. The biggest governing body within a Dominion.

Cities, towns, and villages operated much like they did in the real world, falling under these larger governing units.

Vorden had learned that he was currently in the Dominion of Orivon, within the Territory of Montclair. While Orivon wasn't the most famous Dominion, it was highly developed and structured.

But the biggest surprise was the Meritocratic Democracy system they followed. Unlike the real world, where elections were often based on popularity, this system required candidates to meet strict qualifications in governance, law, and economics before they could even run for office.

"That must be rough," Vorden muttered to himself, thinking about the Sovereign of Orivon. "Charos Poniros... I wonder how he manages all this."

Despite the new knowledge, Vorden still had a job to do. His next class was Sociology—and it just so happened to be with his homeroom, Class 5F.

"Sociology, huh?" he sighed, rubbing his chin. "How the hell am I supposed to teach people how to socialize when I barely talk to anyone myself?"

With no better plan, he decided to wing it.

Class 5F

Vorden stepped into the classroom, his hands casually tucked behind his back. He glanced around, trying to take in the environment. The setup was standard—desks, chairs, bookshelves. Nothing out of the ordinary.

The only thing out of place? His two bodyguards, who followed him everywhere like oversized shadows.

Vorden sighed and ignored them. He walked over to the board and picked up a marker. With a slight smirk, he wrote two statements:

MATHEMATICS IS A SCAM

VS

MATHEMATICS IS A SKILL

He turned back to the students.

"Alright, raise your hand if you agree with the first one."

WHOOSH!

Every single hand shot up instantly.

Vorden blinked.

"...Not even one person disagrees?" he asked, looking around in disbelief.

Silence.

"Okay... You," he pointed at a random student. "Explain your reasoning."

The student stood up confidently.

"Math is basically useless. If we need numbers and logic, we already do that in Common Reasoning—and that's hard enough as it is! Math just exists to stress us out and make the school charge us extra fees."

Murmurs of agreement spread across the room.

"Preach!"

"Finally, someone said it!"

"Yeah, tell 'em!"

Vorden stood there, watching as his classroom practically turned into a protest rally against mathematics.

"...This is going to be a problem," he muttered under his breath.

And then—

**DING!**

A holographic screen popped up in front of him.

His vision blurred, and everything went dark.
