Chapter 381 Kung Fu is No Match for a Kitchen Knife
"You can try." Lin Zifeng’s gaze briefly swept over them like a knife.
"Haha, do you think just because you know a little Kung Fu, you can do whatever you want? What era are we in now? It’s all about brains and backgrounds. I happen to need some money right now, so either you beat all of us up today, or you won’t be able to get away from this affair. I’ve already called my buddy, and he will be here soon. Then you’ll know what it means to want to live but not be able to and to want to die but not manage it," Liu San said fiercely, his scarred face contorted into a wicked smile.
He knew Lin Zifeng could fight, but he had seen many who could fight. Using violence was absolutely not a way to solve problems with these people. With a little trick and the help of the police force, however, it was a different story.
Nowadays, the police bully the weak and fear the strong, hardly different from thugs. When dealing with bad guys, they are utterly useless, but when dealing with ordinary people, they are endlessly resourceful.
"Are you extorting me?" Lin Zifeng asked coldly.
"Heh heh, kid, it’s not wrong to play the hero, but you’d better first understand who you are saving and whom you are provoking. Reality isn’t always like the movies. I know you know some Kung Fu, but as soon as you make a move, the police will swoop in. One call from me, and I can have you eating prison food for life. Believe it or not?"
Liu San’s expression gradually turned fierce, and as he watched Lin Zifeng clench his fists, he knew Lin Zifeng didn’t dare act, so he continued to speak arrogantly.
Especially in front of a bunch of clueless underlings, he felt an exceptional sense of prestige.
Lin Zifeng shook his head helplessly.
Sure enough, within a short while,
sirens could be heard coming from outside the construction site.
Within three minutes, a young police officer entered the site, yawning and swaggering in, a thuggish demeanor about him. He first waved to Liu San and greeted him, then, with a cigarette dangling from his lips, glanced impatiently at Lin Zifeng.
"Is it this fucker?" the young officer asked dismissively, pointing in Lin Zifeng’s direction.
Soon thereafter, two middle-aged officers entered from outside the shed.
Compared to the young officer, they appeared much more composed.
In this day and age, as long as one spends some money to enter a police academy, becoming a small-time officer is quite easy, which is why officers nowadays are wolves in sheep’s clothing. They devour without spitting out the bones.
"Haha, Officer Li is quite efficient, arriving so quickly within just a few minutes," Liu San greeted warmly. He quickly pulled out a cigarette and offered one to Officer Li, but watching this, Lin Zifeng found it rather absurd; the police colluding with gangsters was indeed a laughable scene.
But with the arrival of the police, all the underlings at the scene seemed to gain more courage and appeared rather pleased with themselves.
Even Zhang Xixi, somewhat frightened, clung to Lin Zifeng’s arm, fearing what might happen next.
Lin Zifeng simply turned his head back and gave Zhang Xixi a reassuring smile, signaling her not to worry too much.
"Brother Liu, as for what you ordered, where would I not follow through? This small matter is easily resolved; you didn’t even need to lift a finger," the young officer clearly wanted to curry favor with Liu San, his language filled with a hint of reverence.
"Don’t worry, I’m putting Officer Li to some trouble this time. I’ll definitely put in a good word with our boss soon. There’s a lucrative spot open at the station; I assure you, you won’t miss out on your share, brother."
"Then I’ll thank Brother Liu in advance. Haha..."
"It’s a small matter." Liu San waved his hand and then glanced over Lin Zifeng’s body, and whispered a few words to the young officer, covering his mouth.
The young officer’s brows tightened progressively, nodding repeatedly, reassuring Liu San.
From the start to the end, Lin Zifeng just sneered at the scene before him, seeing that it was not a coincidence that the police were colluding with the thugs.
"Let’s go, what are you waiting around for?"
The arrogance of the young officer was destined to lead him to make the wrong choices in life.
Zhang Xixi, somewhat agitated, stepped forward and clung to Lin Zifeng’s arm, protesting to the young officer, "This has nothing to do with Brother Lin. It’s all my fault. You can’t just arrest people without knowing the truth."
"The young lady sure is pretty, why stick with this pretty boy? Can he satisfy you?" The young officer shrugged his shoulders, taking the cigarette Liu San handed him, and smoked indifferently.
"You!" Zhang Xixi was already a sensitive girl, and the officer’s words instantly made her face turned slightly ashen.
Lin Zifeng furrowed his brows.
His indifferent gaze fixed on the young officer as if he were looking at an inanimate object.
"Are you sure you want to arrest me?" Lin Zifeng asked seriously.
"Heh, looks like quite the poser," laughed the young officer, causing the surrounding crowd to burst into laughter as well.
Everyone understood that even if this young man had fighting skills, he couldn’t possibly challenge the police; no matter how good his Kung Fu was, he’d still be afraid of a knife, not to mention that they had guns.
"I have memorized your badge number. If you leave now, I will let this go. But if you still want to stir up trouble, don’t blame me for not warning you beforehand."
Dealing with such people, Lin Zifeng felt that there was no need for him to act personally. He feared getting his hands dirty.
"Are you threatening me?" asked the young officer with a fierce expression, finding Lin Zifeng’s words somewhat amusing.
Even Liu San thought this guy was skillful but too foolish.
At this point, still playing these old tricks, he thought these were the games that were left over and no longer wished to be played.
"You can try if you don’t believe me." Lin Zifeng squinted his eyes, not in a hurry. Since they wanted to play, he would entertain them nicely. These people would never learn unless they faced some hardship.
The young officer exchanged a glance with Liu San, and without another word, he rushed up, preparing to launch a barrage of slaps at Lin Zifeng.
But then, two middle-aged officers behind him stopped the young officer in his tracks.
"Xiao Li, don’t make too much of a scene."
One of the middle-aged officers, with very thick eyebrows, had been observing Lin Zifeng for a while. His years of experience and instincts told him that this young man was not someone they could afford to provoke, but, constrained by Liu San’s presence, he could not explicitly say it; instead, he cautiously reminded the young officer.
"Uncle Long, you guys stay out of this matter. Whatever happens, I will take the responsibility. I refuse to believe this kid has much capability!"
The young officer’s ulterior motive was already clear to the middle-aged officer; he simply wanted to avenge Liu San to gain favors and hopefully get a promotion, which was why he had caused this scene.
People strive upward, water flows downward. These are natural human tendencies, understandable. But those who recklessly step forward without discerning the situation often end up as mere cannon fodder.
Lin Zifeng shook his head, his gaze teasing as he looked at the young officer.
He then pulled out his phone and got a number from Zhang Xixi.
