Urban System in America Chapter 48

"So, what’s the plan?"

As if nothing had changed, Rex picked up where he left off. "Like I said, I’ll hack into the school network using Clement’s credentials."

"Wait... using his credentials? Didn’t you delete all traces?"

"Well, I did, but I left a simple backdoor. Rex replied coolly. Any good hacker or programmer always leaves a backdoor for future access."

"And using his credentials, I can easily access the school system and anonymously spread all the evidence to every device connected to the network."

"Then what?" Adrian asked quickly.

"Then... BOOM!" Rex suddenly made an explosion noise, startling Adrian, who was listening with full focus.

Seeing Adrian’s flustered expression, Rex burst out laughing.

Adrian slowly fixed his posture and looked at Rex with a bitter face—but anyone could see he didn’t really mind.

Honestly, he was shocked and amazed by Rex’s meticulousness. If it had been just him... Well, he didn’t even want to think about it. He would’ve impulsively rushed forward, trying to beat Clement up, and ruined everything.

Sure, the idea of that was satisfying, but the consequences would’ve been catastrophic. He’d be expelled for sure due to lack of concrete proof and might even end up in jail.

That’s why he couldn’t quite put into words the respect...no, admiration...he felt toward Rex. Rex had taken great risks to help him. Even though he said he had his own reasons, that didn’t matter to him. What mattered was the fact that Rex had helped him, and he would never forget that kindness. He vowed to repay him.

"Hey man, are you still here or already chilling with fairies in heaven!?"

Rex waved his hand in front of a stunned Adrian.

’This kid hasn’t gone stupid because of my prank, right?’ Rex muttered, barely audible.

"It’s you who’s stupid... I-I was just thinking about something, hmph!" Adrian said with feigned anger.

"Okay, okay, I get it," Rex said, backing off.

"So, what are you gonna do with these videos?"

"Well, first of all, I’ll have to blur the faces," Rex said, turning serious again. And then organize everything into an explosive movie."

If it’s a movie, then it should have a name too.

"By the way, If it’s a movie, then it should have a name too. So, what should we call it? The Downfall of Clement or Downfall of Morals?"

"Maybe we should call it Scandalous Affairs," Adrian said half-heartedly, clearly not interested in more of Rex’s jokes.

"Well, that’s a good one. Maybe we’ll actually use it." Rex said thoughtfully, stroking his chin.

Adrian nodded slightly—it seemed he had decent taste.

"Okay, then it’s settled. We’ll call it Clement’s Fall," Rex announced it arbitrarily.

Adrian Stared at him, confused.’ Didn’t he just say mine was good? Then why use his own?’

Where is justice? Where is integrity? he screamed silently in his heart. But he really didn’t have the energy to deal with Rex’s antics anymore. So, he lay down on the carpet, eyes unfocused, mind trying to process everything.

No matter how much they joked or tried to lighten the mood, reality stood firm in front of them. They had no choice but to face it with open arms, even if they were extremely reluctant.

Seeing him like that, Rex didn’t say anything and busied himself with the task of blurring and organizing the data.

Time ticked on, like a never-ending stream.

Eventually, Rex’s voice broke through the silence. "Done. All faces are blurred while still keeping the evidence intact."

Adrian stirred and sat up slowly, his eyes falling to the screen.

The evidence was still there. It wasn’t as personal anymore, but it was just as damning.

Looking at Blair and the professor’s movements, he felt a fire burning inside him. He clenched his jaw tightly to suppress it.

Taking a deep breath, he turned to Rex. "Can you make it so that even though her face isn’t showing, others...especially those in the university...can still recognize her?"

Rex raised an eyebrow at the request. "I can easily do that, but... are you sure?"

"Yeah. Adrian said without hesitation. One hundred percent sure. Even though the professor is in the wrong, she’s just as guilty."

He took a deep breath, thinking of her strutting around in fancy clothes. "I-I don’t want to let her off so easily. She should pay for her actions." His voice wavered slightly.

"Okay." Rex didn’t say much more and nodded silently, understanding the weight behind Adrian’s words. He quickly adjusted the clip so that those close to her could vaguely recognize her. And that would be enough for it to spread like wildfire.

"How about now?" he asked Adrian, who was staring intently at the screen.

"Perfect. You reap what you sow," Adrian said with a cruel grin.

Rex just nodded, the two sitting together, a heavy silence hanging between them.

"We’ll release it on Monday," Adrian finally said, his voice low but resolute. "When the whole university is back, we have to make sure everyone sees it."

"Got it." Rex nodded. He didn’t care when, as long as it was released.

"We’ll show their true colors to the whole world," he said while stretching his body.

They didn’t say much more. There was nothing left to say. Everything that should be done had already been done. A storm was coming, and they were right in the eye of it.

And this was just the calm before the storm.

Just then, Rex’s stomach growled, breaking the silence.

"You hungry?" Adrian asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Of course I’m hungry! Do you even know what time it is?" He pointed toward the clock on the desk. "It’s already 8:23 PM." ʀᴇᴀᴅ ʟᴀᴛᴇsᴛ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀᴛ NoveI(F)ire.net

"I didn’t even notice the time," Adrian said, barely managing a smile—though it didn’t reach his eyes.

"Let’s go grab some food. There’s a great place just across the street."

"Okay, lead the way."

They left the apartment together, heading toward a small diner.

It was a quiet, unassuming place. The food wasn’t anything top tier, but it was decent enough to make them forget about everything for a while.

As they sat down and waited for their food, they chatted about trivial things, pushing everything else to the back of their minds.

It was Saturday. Tomorrow was Sunday. They had a little time to breathe, to relax.

Monday would be the day everything changed.

And when it came, it would absolutely shock everyone.
