Xiang Yu followed the Ghost King through the dense forest. They didn’t walk that far before he spotted a small old house shrouded in an eerie aura, protected by a host of ghosts. However, as soon as Xiang Yu appeared, his formidable presence sent the spirits scattering in terror. The Ghost King grumbled, "Can’t get good help these days," as he watched his spectral minions abandon him. They ran so fast you would think that they weren’t under his ghost slave contract.
When they entered the house Xiang Yu was prepared for the worst. He thought that there would be a group of women tied together crying for help but instead he saw that the hostages were not restrained and they were separated into two groups. Lian and Mei were conducting interviews, their expressions serious and focused.
One might be curious as to what exactly they were interviewing the hostages for. Well, when they got caught and tossed into this old house they realized they could take advantage of the situation. When would they ever have so many stunning women in one place? Lian and Mei cut off their restraints ready to implement their plan.
Mei moved swiftly, untying the restraints of the women. The room was filled with teary-eyed women, their expressions a mix of relief and confusion. Lian stood on a broken stool and made a public service announcement that left the women stunned. "Hello, hie... While we are here waiting patiently for rescue, we are looking for the perfect wife for our father," she declared, her voice clear and confident.
One woman in a green dress, her face still streaked with tears, scolded Lian. "How can you worry about such things while we are still trapped here?"
Lian didn’t seem to care about her tone. Mei, busy untying another woman, reassured them, "Our father will come looking for us. You don’t need to worry." The woman snorted and Lian turned to the woman her expression unyielding.
"If you are not interested, you can sit in the corner and shut up," she said her tone so chilling that the woman cowered.
Mei nudged Lian gently, whispering, "Stop being rude. It will affect our chances of finding a good wife for our master."
Lian’s demeanour shifted instantly. She smiled sweetly at the woman in the green dress. "Please be quiet," she said, her tone now polite but to the woman it sounded like a threat. "Better?" she asked Mei and her sister almost rolled her eyes.
The woman was terrified but seeing that this was a kid who hadn’t even come of age she huffed but complied, moving to the corner. The other women, though bewildered listened to them. "Any of you who are disinterested you can move to this side," said Lian taking the matter seriously. More than half of the young women moved to the other side of the room. "Those under twenty and married are not suitable. You may step to the side," she added and ten more young women left the group. The twins didn’t want a mother close to their age. It would be very weird to call someone their age mother.
"The fact that you are putting in so much effort to find a wife for him must mean that he is old and ugly... or poor," said one of the young women who couldn’t fathom these girls chose to it this right no. It was simply illogical. What she didn’t realise was that the word illogical was not in this pair’s vocabulary. They were just as illogical as their master. Because of what this woman said two women rethought their decision and moved away from the group.
"My father is not old. He is very handsome and would never pick you big head!" yelled Lian before Mei covered her mouth while apologising with a nervous laugh.
"No name calling or calling out other people’s appearances. Its not nice," she whispered educating her like she was much older than her. Actually, she was older than Lian by approximately twenty minutes. It was clear that Lian was the emotional one of the two.
"But she called master ugly and old and poor," she whispered angrily but Mei gestured for her to keep quiet.
A gorgeous woman with peach blossom eyes tremblingly raised her hand and asked, "Ca- can you tell us more about him? Like what happened to your mother." She was thinking a man who would come save his daughters wouldn’t be that bad, right?
"He has never been married before and will not take in concubines in the future because he hates drama. We were saved by him when we were five and he adopted us. He is not messy and he stays at home and works very hard. He doesn’t even know what the door of a brothel looks like," said Mei advertising her master’s good qualities.
"He is very very generous and tall. He has a temper only to those who betray him and he likes drinking wine and eating good food," chimed in Lian before her sister whispered in her ear,
"Shouldn’t you leave that out? It might scare them." As though her words were prophetic three women moved to the other side reducing the numbers. "Any more questions?" she asked and the women shook their heads. The others didn’t want to admit it but the twin girls had managed to lighten the atmosphere. Despite their ordeal they found themselves drawn in by the twins’ infectious enthusiasm.
"Okay, then we will ask you a couple of questions to determine your compatibility with our father. Let’s start with you," said Mei beckoning the young woman sitting in front. The two were even more serious about their job than a matchmaker. They asked a series of questions silently picking their favourites among them. This was like watching the preselection of prospective suitors before they went on The Bachelor.
"Can you cook?" Lian asked one girl, mentally jotting down notes.
"What’s your favourite hobby?" Mei inquired of another, her eyes scanning the responses.
"What do you want in a husband? Do you want children?" Lian continued, her tone professional.
This was what Xiang Yu walked into. His disciples had divided the room in two while interviewing women. His brow furrowed in confusion. "What are you doing?" he asked, his voice cutting through the room.
