Wandering Tech-Priest in Multiverse Chapter 96

Tony reclined back in his chair, arms folded, the bandages rustling on the burnt fabric of his undershirt.

"So, twenty billion in payments, and I am not even getting a business mug?"

Luthar was not smiling. "You get to live your life. And the chance to return to your empire with some degree of liberty.

"Right. Partial freedom," Tony muttered. "Where you observe me like a monkey in a laboratory until I hand up your valuable resources."

"We will keep the conditions clear," Liliruca stated, typing the agreement into her data pad. "We have a ten-year installment plan. Five percent interest. Quarterly reports. Any departure or attempt to disappear, and...

She let the sentence drift off.

Tony raised his hand. "No need to portray a whole picture. I understand—miss a payment, and I end as one of your floating skulls."

Luthar offered a brief nod. "Then we are in agreement."

Tony sighed and looked between the two of them. "Fine. Deal. But next time I wake up in a cave, I'm retiring."

Luthar averted his gaze. "Unlikely. With your personality, retirement would be over in less than a week."

Liliruca looked out the tent flap toward the dunes. "He is still not returned."

"The camp's commander," she said. "I sent him out to get some fresh food this morning. He has not come back."

Tony gave a sneer. "He should have fled. If I had been him, I would have done the same thing."

Luthar was silent for a minute, his gaze fixed on the southern slope.

"Possible. Or he made contact with outside forces. Either way, we move now."

Tony rose slowly, adjusting the brace on his leg. "So, what about our ride? Is there a ship concealed under the sand?

Luthar remained silent. He went outside into the wide air, his cloak catching the breeze.

With a precise motion, space itself began to sparkle. A faint hum filled the air as a tear in reality appeared, much like a gaming inventory opening in the middle of a combat. Metal components appeared out of nowhere, seemingly constructing themselves.

Within twenty seconds, the Drop-Wing Skimmer was fully formed—sleek, dark-gray armor with angular wings folded tightly along the sides. The gunship floated a meter above the ground, anti-gravity coils humming faintly under its frame.

Tony's eyebrows arched. "While your magic performance is great, the guy who created this contraption should have been thrown into a reactor. It is unsightly."

Luthar approached the ramp in stride. "We do not provide art instruction at the Mechanicus. And if someone tried to sign up for one, I would be the first to shoot them in the head."

He examined a control panel while placing a gloved hand on the hull.

"This platform reaches low orbit and can withstand a limited space transition. I do not need it to win beauty pageants; I need it to fly.

Tony stared up at the gunship with skepticism and reluctant awe in his eyes.

"Tell me this thing has a minibar."

Liliruca grunted as she followed them up the slope. "You are lucky that there are seats."

A person stayed at the base of the ramp, scarred, patched, and silent.

Yinsen, the guy who had been integrated into the Mark I suit with Tony.

His gaze followed every action softly.

Tony halted as awareness dawned on him. "Will you come?"

The ramp closed behind them, and the Skimmer's systems activated with a cacophony of whirling gears and blinking lights.

Luthar approached the pilot's alcove, servo-skulls correcting altitude readings and searching for remaining dangers.

Tony settled upon one of the side seats next to Liliruca. "So, you still believe twenty billion is fair?"

She did not raise her eyes. "You are lucky we do not charge for emotional distress."

Tony gave a grin. "Little lady, with your negotiating talents, you would become an excellent secretary."

The engines generated dust and ash, which rose in spirals. The Drop-Wing Skimmer rose effortlessly, leaving behind the wrecked camp and the burning remnants of the previous two days.

The former commander of the camp halted at the ridgeline, unnoticed through the haze. After learning from his minions that the gang was going, he snuck back near the abandoned camp.

Inside the ship, the buzz of anti-grav coils filled the cabin.

Tony massaged his wrists while peering through the tight window. "So, what happens now? You you dropping me in a neutral zone, or do I finally get to go home?"

Luthar made adjustments to the console without glancing up. "Stark Industries Headquarters in California. The coordinates of your mansion have been logged."

"Do you know where I live?"

"I know what I need," Luthar said. "I will stay nearby till your business returns and the first shipments start."

Tony rested his head on the wall. "It may be tough. I am not the sole proprietor of Stark Industries."

Liliruca did not glance up from her data pad. "You've got a month to figure it out."

For the first time, Yinsen spoke across from them. "What about the world? What occurs if they see Tony Stark once more strolling around? And how would you conceal personal information?

Luthar answered plainly. "Tony's PR team can handle that and I need to clarify I am not one of those people who hide their information"

Tony raised a brow. " For a guy with a weird dress with weapons far more advanced than anyone I figured you'd prefer staying off the grid. You planning to take over the world?"

Luthar finally looked away from the controls.

"I don't care about this world. But I am thinking about reclaiming Mars. Feels like it's my birthright to take over Mars."

Tony let out a long breath. "Wonderful. So now I've got a Martian conqueror well at least now I don't have to worry about a sudden war with the government"

Liliruca gave a small smile. "You say that like it's a bad thing."

Tony glanced toward the ceiling. "It's not a bad thing. Just another Tuesday."

The Drop-Wing Skimmer soared on—leaving behind the wreckage of war and crossing into a new future. One built on reluctant alliances, strange technologies, and the impossible debts between men from different worlds.
