Because the housekeepers clean regularly, the room is very clean, not like it hasn’t been lived in for years.
Bella instinctively slowed her pace, as if she were a thief, her heart pounding in nervousness.
Photos were placed on both bedside tables, and Bella immediately noticed the indulgent smile of Damian in one of them. The girl next to him, holding his arm and resting her head affectionately on his shoulder, was beautiful with two very charming and adorable dimples.
Just one photo, one indulgent smile, was enough to overwhelm Bella completely. She didn’t dare look any further and quickly turned around, running out of the room back to her third-floor bedroom.
How could she have been foolish enough to think that Damian actually liked her?
She had been with Damian since she was sixteen, for five years now. In the first few years, it was understandable that Damian didn’t touch her or talk to her much, but in the past year or two, they had formed the closest of relationships, even had a child together.
But Damian had never smiled at her like that.
So tenderly, so affectionately. Just that smile frozen in the photo showed how much he liked the girl next to him.
Facing the person you like, of course, you’d be happy.
And her? She was merely a mistress he’d purchased with money. Or maybe just a plaything? A tool for venting?
Pity her for having feelings she shouldn’t have, leading herself to such a humiliating and embarrassing place.
Bella covered her face with her hands, no longer able to contain the sadness and sorrow in her heart, sliding down the door and squatting on the floor, sobbing and weeping.
She cried and cried, not knowing when she fell asleep crying.
The next morning, she woke up curled up on the carpet by the door, her nose somewhat congested, her eyes painful and swollen, almost unable to open.
She stayed in the bedroom dazedly, unwilling to leave, not wanting to go out.
Perhaps she should wait, wait until Damian returns and ask him clearly. After five years, does he have any feelings for her at all?
If... if...
Bella dared not continue, wrapping her arms around her knees, muttering to herself, "Seven days until the crew’s costume fitting, then I’ll wait for Damian for six days. If he has any feelings for me, even just a little..."
What good would that do? Could she forcibly take Damian away?
The indulgent smile in the photo was vivid, not allowing her to deceive herself.
Bella took a deep breath, thinking that whatever happens, she should at least give herself an answer. Even if... even if it’s a breakup.
"Ms. Acker, are you up?" Mrs. Jennings’ voice sounded outside the door.
"I... I’m up." Bella hastily wiped away the tears on her face, mustering some spirit, saying, "Mrs. Jennings, I’ll be studying my script these days, so I won’t be coming downstairs to eat. When you finish cooking, please bring it up to me. Oh, and if... if Damian comes back, let me know."
"Sure, sure." Mrs. Jennings hesitated for a moment, then said, "Ms. Acker, you sound a bit nasal. Are you catching a cold?"
"No, no. Mrs. Jennings, you go ahead, don’t mind me."
Although Mrs. Jennings felt puzzled, she didn’t ask further and went downstairs to work.
Bella sighed in relief, also finally making up her mind. She would wait for Damian to return and, regardless of anything, she would ask him.
