After waiting for the bus to leave, Zhou Chengze finally started the car. He hadn’t returned to stay at the Lake Bay Villa for a long time. The reasons, Zhou Chengze himself knew, but didn’t fully understand.
Turning around, he glanced at the spot where Tang Yanqi had just been sitting. The playful smile on his face gradually turned to loneliness, his thin lips slightly pressed together. Zhou Chengze floored the accelerator, and the silver Ferrari raced away like a bolt of lightning.
Just as Tang Yanqi guessed from the document bag she saw, Zhou Chengze had business with Sheng Jianan. He sped all the way to the Shengshi Group, took the elevator directly to the top floor, arriving just after Qiao Zi.
"Young Master Ze, morning."
"Assistant Qiao, good morning. Brother Nan hasn’t come yet?"
Before Qiao Zi could speak, he glanced at the numbers on the CEO’s private elevator starting to change, and with a smile said to Zhou Chengze, "The CEO will be arriving shortly. Young Master Ze, would you like a cup of coffee?"
As the real estate tycoon of B City, Zhou Chengze inherited the family business without much of the domineering CEO attitude. Qiao Zi was quite familiar with him, so they chatted more casually.
Zhou Chengze also saw the numbers changing on the elevator and pointed to the door of the CEO’s office: "I’ll go in first, Xin Qiao, beautiful lady."
Sheng Jianan emerged from the elevator with a very grim expression. Qiao Zi carried two cups of coffee from the break room and, upon looking up, saw Sheng Jianan’s darkened face. The chilling aura almost made Qiao Zi drop the coffee cups.
"Mor... morning, CEO."
Sheng Jianan glanced at the coffee cups in Qiao Zi’s hands and gave a faint "hmph" before walking into the office, seeing Zhou Chengze nonchalantly sitting on the sofa.
"Oh, Brother Nan, morning."
Sheng Jianan ignored Zhou Chengze, went straight to his desk, and sat down. Qiao Zi put the two cups of coffee down and left the CEO’s office without delay. Qiao Zi hadn’t seen this low pressure from Sheng Jianan for quite a while; the last time was probably when his own CEO was getting married.
Zhou Chengze sat opposite Sheng Jianan. He could tell what Qiao Zi noticed—how could a childhood friend like him miss it? He picked up his coffee and took a sip, the smile still on his face, "Brother Nan, early in the morning you’re spreading low pressure, what’s the matter? Unfulfilled desires?"
Upon hearing Zhou Chengze’s words, Sheng Jianan finally looked up, his dark eyes gleaming with an icy glare that sent chills down Zhou Chengze’s spine. He exaggeratedly shrunk his neck and crossed his arms: "Brother Nan, what... what are you planning to do? I’m not selling myself."
Sheng Jianan placed his hand on the armrest, leaned back slightly, his eyes narrowing as his expression remained grim: "When did you get the new car? Not bad."
Zhou Chengze paused briefly, suddenly realizing Sheng Jianan arrived at Shengshi right after him and must have seen his new car, probably catching sight of Tang Yanqi getting into his car earlier.
Actually, it wasn’t a big deal. Seeing his friend’s wife walking on the road alone and offering her a lift shouldn’t feel awkward. But Zhou Chengze knew what he was thinking inside. Now, hearing Sheng Jianan stating it outright, Zhou Chengze felt a bit guilty and awkwardly forced a smile: "Just picked up the car; its performance is... is quite good."
After babbling a bit, Zhou Chengze steadied himself and explained, "I happened to see your wife when I went out this morning and gave her a lift. Brother Nan, you should really get your wife a car."
