Tang Yanqi instinctively glanced in Sheng Jianan’s direction before taking the menu from Xiao Mei.
The table of guests were French. Although they spoke English, their accents were quite heavy, so it was normal that Xiao Mei couldn’t understand. Tang Yanqi was different; her English was excellent and she knew a bit of French, so understanding was naturally not a problem.
She quickly finished taking the order, handed it to the kitchen, and when she came back out, Sheng Jianan was already gone from the restaurant.
Tang Yanqi finally felt at ease. Meeting Sheng Jianan here was unexpected, but she didn’t entertain any thoughts of quitting because of it. A place , Sheng Jianan probably wouldn’t come a second time, and she didn’t want to lose this job.
The Western restaurant stayed open late. After her shift ended, Tang Yanqi walked out, looking at the dim streetlights and the distant, bustling neon lights, and belatedly remembered something.
The dormitory was closed now, and usually, after working the weekend, she would go directly back to the Tang Family, then leave the next morning. But now things were different.
She couldn’t go back to the Tang Family, nor could she return to the dormitory. So where would she go?
Tang Yanqi felt a bit exasperated. Have I really been that busy lately? How could I forget something so important?
Spending money to stay at a hotel was absolutely out of the question for Tang Yanqi. After hesitating for two seconds, she decided to go back to the Lake Bay Villa. Although she didn’t feel it was her home, in a world so big, where was her home anyway?
Considering there most likely weren’t any groceries at Lake Bay Villa, Tang Yanqi stopped by a 24-hour convenience store to buy two packs of instant noodles, then hurried to catch a bus towards Lake Bay Villa, and got off to take a taxi the rest of the way. As a wealthy heiress just short of cash, she saved money where she could.
The villa was dark and quiet. It was easy to guess that Sheng Jianan wouldn’t be coming back.
Feeling her way through the dark, she opened the door, went upstairs, washed up, and went to sleep. Exhausted from the day, Tang Yanqi fell asleep immediately upon hitting the bed, a bed she had been sleeping in for some time now, so she no longer felt unfamiliar with it.
Early in the morning, Tang Yanqi was woken up by a call from Qi Cheng, reminding her not to forget the tutoring session today.
Holding the phone in one hand and covering her forehead with the other, Tang Yanqi mumbled, "Chengzi, if you keep waking me up, I’m going to turn you into orange juice."
It had been two days in a row, and though Tang Yanqi had a good temper, it was rare to see her angry, but those who knew her well were aware that Miss Tang had a temper, especially when waking up.
Qi Cheng chuckled twice on the other end of the line, reminded her a couple more times, then hung up. Tang Yanqi’s hand went limp, causing the phone to slip, while she kept her eyes closed. But after being disturbed by Qi Cheng, she couldn’t sleep anymore. After lying there for a while, she simply sat up.
She checked the time; it was just past seven in the morning.
Slowly getting up to wash and change, Tang Yanqi tied a simple ponytail and went downstairs. The weather outside was very gloomy today, completely different from the bright sun of yesterday, signaling imminent rain.
Tang Yanqi poured a glass of water and stood by the window. She hadn’t fully woken up yet; her mind was still a bit foggy. Her gaze shifted, and Tang Yanqi was suddenly startled, her remaining sleepiness instantly disappearing.
The water got caught in her throat, causing her to cough several times.
She widened her eyes at the person who had appeared out of nowhere, simply standing quietly at the top of the stairs, wearing casual loungewear, yet there was no diminishing of the arrogance between his brows and eyes.
