So, today's opponent was upperclassman Seika Kohinata.
Originally, Kira had planned to test his VWXYZ deck today, which had turned out surprisingly strong with the anime-only support cards.
But since he had two back-to-back duels, he decided to save that for his match with Alexis, which promised to be more challenging.
For the first match, he went with his trusty Gadget deck.
Seika started. She seemed to be playing Warriors, opening with Pot of Greed out of respect, then summoning "Warrior Lady of the Wasteland" in defense mode—the classic "leave the ass to the opponent" play.

Next, she played "The A. Forces," a continuous spell that increases the ATK of all Warrior and Spellcaster monsters by 200 for each Warrior or Spellcaster on the field. She set a card and ended her turn.
Kira's turn. For some reason, he didn't draw his field spell as planned, but that was fine.
He summoned the invincible "Submarineroid," flew past her defense, and slapped Seika directly.

"In the face of the united Warriors, slow tactics won't work! Battle phase—Axe Raider attacks Submarineroid!"
Axe Raider charged, swinging his axe at the little submarine. Naturally, Kira gave Axe Raider the respect he deserved.
"I activate my set card, 'Quaking Mirror Force!' When an opponent's monster declares an attack, all attack position monsters become face-down defense, and they can't change position!"
Send all three to the Shadow Realm to play Mahjong.
The shield whipped up dust, sweeping the field in a ghostly wind. All three Warriors were flipped face-down in a neat line.
"Now, Senpai, you have no monsters to attack with."
Kira smiled gently, inviting her to continue with a "please, your move" gesture.
"Fine! I activate my set card—continuous trap 'Call of the Haunted!' I revive a monster from the graveyard in attack position! Come forth, level six, 'Penumbral Soldier Lady'!"

She thought she could keep fighting.
"Activate set card, trap 'Floodgate Trap Hole'! When an opponent summons a monster, it's flipped face-down and can't change position!"

The Penumbral Soldier Lady hit the field and was instantly sent to the Shadow Realm. Now she had four face-down monsters, all stuck, chilling together.
"Then I activate the quick-play spell 'Quick Summon!' I can normal summon an extra monster from my hand!" (Anime card)
She played another card.
"Tribute the face-down 'Axe Raider' and 'Marauding Captain' to tribute summon—level seven, 'Sword Hunter'!"

"Sword Hunter can equip any monster it destroys in battle!" Seika declared. "Battle! Sword Hunter attacks Submarineroid!"
But Kira wasn't about to let his invincible submarine get taken down.
"I activate my set card, quick-play spell 'Book of Moon'! Flip a monster on the field face-down.
So, I set 'Sword Hunter' face-down too!"
Sword Hunter wobbled and joined the others in the Shadow Realm, playing cards with his new friends.
Wow, you're something.
You really love setting cards.
But at least Sword Hunter, set by Book of Moon, could be flipped next turn, and he could equip defeated monsters to power up.
"I set a card and end my turn," Seika finished gloomily.
So, this was the freshman who beat Chazz Princeton and Rex Raptor? Is this how he won?
Putting herself in their shoes, she suddenly felt sorry for them. At least this was just a casual match and only a few credits were at stake, but she was already suffocating.
She imagined facing this guy in a public tournament—she'd probably have a stroke on the spot.
And he was even taunting her.

Seika tensed. The crowd held its breath.
He was bringing out his ace so soon?
"Watch, senpai! I'll tribute your face-down 'Penumbral Soldier Lady' and 'Sword Hunter' to special summon my ace monster—on your field!
From the abyssal lava, the power of destruction and rebirth—
