On the third day, they finally arrived at Eastern Capital Luoyang.
As soon as she entered Luoyang City Gate, Shang Ruyi felt an immense sense of relief. Looking at the familiar streets on both sides and smelling the familiar scent in the air, she smiled with her eyes narrowed—she was finally back.
Seeing her rare display of such joy, Yu Wenye said, "Do you miss coming back this much?"
Shang Ruyi happily replied, "My uncle and aunt are still in the Eastern Capital!"
After speaking, noticing Yu Wenye’s cold and stern face, she felt her emotions too exposed and quickly lowered the curtain and sat properly. After some thought, she softly asked, "Can you—can you accompany me?"
"You want me to accompany you back, right?"
Shang Ruyi cautiously looked at him, "Is that alright?"
Yu Wenye considered for a moment and said, "Let’s settle in at home first, then find a day to visit the Shen Mansion. I should properly pay my respects to your uncle and aunt, which counts as your return visit."
Although she knew he was merely playing the role of a husband and not being genuine, the fact that he cared so much about her family warmed Shang Ruyi’s heart. She nodded with a smile, "Okay!"
After a short ride, they finally arrived at the Yuwen Family residence in South City.
This was a much larger mansion than the Yuwen Mansion in Taiyuan, with a grand and elegant entrance, carved beams, and painted pillars. Though not exceptionally solemn, it carried a refined aura. As soon as they stepped out of the carriage, they saw several household servants neatly lined up at the door to greet them.
"Greetings to the Second Young Master, Young Madam; greetings to the Third Young Master."
Yu Wenye helped Shang Ruyi off the carriage and led the group inside.
Along the way, they could see the house was already thoroughly cleaned. Besides the newly repaired wing, many places had been newly wallpapered, giving the whole place a fresh look.
Aunt Hui smiled and said, "It’s a good thing the Duke suddenly decided to have the house repaired earlier, or we wouldn’t know what state it’d be in now after returning."
Hearing this, Shang Ruyi felt a subtle stir in her heart.
Was Yu Wenquan really acting out of idle boredom when he suddenly decided to repair the family house?
Or was it that he had planned this all along?
It seemed her father-in-law, who appeared rough-hewn, was actually meticulous and thoughtful.
Everyone familiar with the house returned to their previous rooms, and Yu Wenye also took Shang Ruyi to his room. Upon entering, it was a spacious and bright space, simply decorated like the one at the Taiyuan Mansion, making it quite comfortable.
Shang Ruyi looked around and smiled, "This is exactly like the room at the Taiyuan Mansion."
Yu Wenye sat down in the center of the room and said, "In the Duke Mansion of Daxing City, my room is also ."
Shang Ruyi turned to him, "Really?"
"When there’s a chance, I’ll take you to see it."
This made them seem closer.
Shang Ruyi pursed her lips and chuckled, "Okay."
Perhaps after leaving the Taiyuan Mansion, both of their states of mind had changed a little. Along the way, their atmosphere became more harmonious, and now, even without the presence of others, Yu Wenye’s demeanor towards her seemed natural and familiar.
There was even a hint of closeness.
