Chapter 286: He is Dead
“Bai Huo, Bai Wei’s biological brother, my only friend,” Dan Hanjie’s voice was calm, even indifferent.
Yet the fact that he used the word ‘friend’ was shocking to Qin Youxuan, she couldn’t help but take the photo frame from his hand and look at the man in the photo more closely.

“He’s dead.” Dan Hanjie stared at the photo frame in her hand, delivering the words with pronounced pauses.

Qin Youxuan lowered her gaze to the man in the photo, who stood out from the rest. He looked so young—how could he be dead?
“Three years ago, when I first arrived in Fico City, just as I established a foothold, I was ambushed. In order to save me, he took a bullet to the heart,” Dan Hanjie recounted these words in a rather indifferent tone, but Qin Youxuan noticed his hand was trembling.
She wasn’t sure if it was anger or guilt.
Dan Hanjie held Qin Youxuan close, leaning against the chair backrest, slowly closing his eyes.
The bloody scene seemed to replay before his eyes.
“He didn’t get to say a word before he died. But I could tell, he wanted me to take care of Wei’er. After that gunfight, Wei’er went missing. It wasn’t until recently that she was found,” Dan Hanjie spoke very briefly, seeming reluctant to revisit the past.
From what Bai Wei had said before, Qin Youxuan could roughly infer what had happened.
Bai Huo and Bai Wei must have known Dan Hanjie since childhood. Bai Wei, due to Bai Huo, must have often seen Dan Hanjie, which is why she understood him so well.

“So what are you planning to do, I mean about Bai Wei. I can tell she likes you…” Qin Youxuan said with a discontented feeling in her heart.
By now, she was clear that Dan Hanjie would never abandon her. Yet while he saw Bai Wei as a sister, Bai Wei didn’t see him as a brother.
“I will arrange for her to be sent back to the US and ensure that she’s well-looked-after.”
