Cold sweat was seeping from Qin Youxuan’s forehead, her hand clenching tightly into a fist.
“Xuan, it’s Daddy. Open your eyes and look at Daddy…” A deep voice echoed in her ears. Qin Youxuan turned her head nervously.
She tried to open her eyes, but found them glued shut.
Her clothes were soaked with sweat and it felt as if something was incessantly tugging at her arm. She wanted to wake up but was unable to do so.
Da Bai roared loudly, his small body propped up on the sofa with his front legs. He looked at Qin Youxuan who was sleep talking intently, quickly opened his mouth to grasp her clothes, and started tugging hard.
Qin Youxuan opened her eyes groggily, a dense white mist clouding her vision. She couldn’t see anything.
After blinking a few times, her vision gradually cleared.
Seeing she had woken up, Da Bai plopped onto the ground exhausted, huffing and puffing.
A pair of innocent wolf eyes looked straight at her.
“Did I dream again?” Qin Youxuan slowly raised her hand, spreading her fingers apart.
Light streamed through her fingers. It was blinding, but it felt real.
It turned out that it was all a dream.
What happened to her? Since coming back from Extreme Love Island, she’d been having these strange dreams repeatedly.
“Da Bai, did you wake me up?” Qin Youxuan bent down to cuddle the little wolf cub sprawled on the floor, holding him in her arms and stroking his beautiful white fur.
Being a purebred snow wolf, he seemed to be much more sensitive than ordinary animals. Every time she was upset, Da Bai would stick to her like glue.
Qin Youxuan put Da Bai down and stood up from the sofa.
She scooped up some water to wash her face, patting it forcefully to make herself look less terrible before heading downstairs.
The butler greeted her respectfully, placing a glass of juice in front of her. “This is fresh fruit just imported from overseas. Please have a taste, young mistress.”
Qin Youxuan glanced at the butler, picked up the glass, and took a light sip.
The rich natural fruit aroma spread through her mouth, but she could hardly taste anything, her throat was so bitter.
“It tastes good, you’ve worked hard.”
“As long as the young mistress likes it, I am satisfied. I will excuse myself now.” The butler bowed respectfully and left.
Qin Youxuan placed a hand over her mouth and darted into the first-floor washroom, ridding her stomach of the juice she had just consumed.
She leaned on the wall, weak and unenergetic, her gaze blank.
The moment she disappeared, Da Bai quickly followed and found her in the washroom.
“You’re almost a little detective. You know where I’m going no matter where I go. You tell me honestly, did Dan Hanjie send you to me just to keep an eye on me?”
Qin Youxuan squatted down, heavily patting Da Bai’s head with one hand.
Da Bai let out a low cry, extending his tongue to lick her wrist.
The innocent pair of eyes were filled with strong concern.
Qin Youxuan’s heart instantly softened.
“You’re still so young, you should be listening to me. How could I think you’re a spy?” Holding Da Bai, Qin Youxuan walked out of the courtyard.
The flowers and plants in the yard were well-manicured.
On the lawn, the grass was sprouting vigorously. From afar, the sprouting green buds, flecked with dew, caught the light and refracted a changeable rainbow.
As soon as Da Bai got out, he broke into a run on the grass.
After making a round, he always circled back to Qin Youxuan, confirming she was alright before resuming his run.
Qin Youxuan seated herself quietly on the grass, hand over her chest, a hunch brewing in her mind. But she did not have the courage to confirm it.
