A Core Ship From The Start Chapter 774

Chapter 774: 551 Chapter 774: 551 “AHHH!!”

Jacob clearly hadn’t anticipated the sudden attack, and he screamed in shock. Luckily, Duanmu Huai was watching closely. He stepped forward, grabbed Jacob by the collar and flung him backwards, while kicking out at the monster’s chest, sending it flying.

The monster crashed heavily into a wooden box, but quickly scrambled back onto its feet.

“What, what is this?!”

Under the dim glow of the oil lamp, they could see a withered corpse. It looked like a man, but was now skeletal. A large hole gaped open in its chest, revealing a web of veins and pulsating organs. As they watched, another box was burst open by a similar creature, roaring as it lunged at them.

“Tch, zombies huh, I knew it.”

Watching the zombie-like creatures, Duanmu Huai grunted disdainfully, pulling the terrified Jacob back and gesturing to Mary and Lorena.

“It’s up to you now, finish them off.”

“Understood, Sir Knight!”

At Duanmu Huai’s words, Mary jumped with surprise, while Lorena snapped her Holy Canon closed and nodded. She then sprang forward, easily dodging the creature’s attack and raising her Holy Canon aloft.

“In God’s light, rest now!”

Accompanied by Lorena’s prayer, the Holy Canon struck the zombie’s forehead. The force of the blow smashed the zombie to the ground, its brains splattering everywhere. It instantly stopped moving.

“The remaining one is for you, Mary. Good luck.”

Duanmu Huai stopped Lorena from continuing her assault and pulled Jacob to the entrance, speaking to Mary.

“Huh? Me, fight it???”

“Yes, if you want to work in this field, you can’t avoid battles. This is just a zombie, not a human. If you can’t even handle it, how will you deal with cultists? Hurry, this should be a piece of cake for you.”

Mary was clearly apprehensive about fighting these creatures. Even though they didn’t look like living beings, they were ultimately human-shaped. As a noble lady, she was very flustered at the thought of killing such a creature.

But the monster didn’t care about any of that. It locked onto Mary and lunged at her, roaring.

Even though Mary was physically paralysed with fear, her magic saved her. She instinctively dodged to the side, evading the monster’s assault. She turned pleading eyes to Duanmu Huai and Lorena, but…

“Hurry up, we don’t have much time to waste.”

“You can do it Miss Mary!!”

It seems she didn’t have any allies on her side.

Perhaps realizing she had no other options, Mary turned back to the zombie, staring it down. Even though she had encountered many formidable monsters when Lani threw her into the Hero Cemetery, most of those creatures were mutated and horrifying, so she could steel herself to kill them.

But the zombie in front of her was just an ordinary human, even if it was skin and bones. But this meant killing it felt more challenging for Mary.

“Ugh… the Nobility of Limbs and Decayed Tree Spirits were easier to deal with…”

At least those didn’t look human!

No choice, time to face it!

With this thought, Mary gripped her magic wand and once again dodged the zombie’s assault, raising her wand. In the next moment, a brilliant beam of light appeared, forming a massive Sword of Light.

The gleaming blade sliced through the zombie, cleaving it, along with the house’s furniture, in two.

“I-I’m sorry, I was too nervous…”

Looking at the furniture cut open in front of her, Duanmu Huai was speechless, while Mary quickly apologized.

“No worries, now that we’re this far in, we’ll definitely have to fight. And those two old men still haven’t noticed us messing around here. Have they gone deaf from old age?”

While Mary had been fighting the zombie, Duanmu Huai had been watching the outside of the house. They had made a lot of noise, and those two old men should have noticed, but to Duanmu Huai’s surprise, they hadn’t shown up even after Mary had disposed of the zombie. Could they really have gone deaf due to their old age?
