"What are you talking about!"
Isabella Gray was the first to express dissatisfaction at Lucas’s remark.
"Grandma, I’m fine. I’ll have some light porridge, and I’ll be better soon." Chloe Grant hurriedly interrupted.
She was purely using the excuse of pretending to be sick to avoid eating too much for the sake of losing weight.
Seeing Isabella’s worried expression, Chloe felt incredibly guilty inside.
Though Isabella wanted her to take some medicine to feel better, seeing Chloe made her reluctant to say more, so she kept silent.
Breakfast was neither cheery nor tense.
Shortly after it ended, Chloe thought of another excuse to go out.
Chloe was surprised that when heading to the city center, Lucas wanted to take the same car as her.
He rarely rode in the family’s car, often driving himself, so Chloe first thought that he intentionally joined her.
Since breakfast, Chloe noticed that he had been in a bad mood.
As soon as they got in the car, Lucas spoke directly, "To the hospital."
"Why are we going to the hospital?"
Lucas glanced at her, "You need a check-up."
"I’m just feeling stuffed, no need for a check-up, I’ll be fine later." Chloe quickly explained, "There’s no need to go."
"I said we’re going, so we’re going. Why all the nonsense?" Lucas replied impatiently, "I’m tired, don’t disturb me."
Chloe, who had been calm, was now pissed at his attitude and kicked him hard, "I’m not going to the hospital!"
Lucas still ignored her.
Chloe cursed at him, but Lucas didn’t respond, so she fell silent, sulking on the other side.
They arrived at the hospital, but Chloe refused to get out of the car!
"Are you getting out or not?" Lucas asked.
"I’m not sick, I’m not going to the hospital, you go if you want... Ah! Lucas, what are you doing, put me down!"
Before Chloe could finish, Lucas lifted her onto his shoulder.
What was this guy trying to do!
"Stop whining, you’re getting checked." Lucas said with clear impatience.
"I’m not getting checked!" Chloe stubbornly shouted.
When they reached the destination, Lucas put Chloe down, and just as she was about to vent, she was utterly dumbfounded...
"I have a digestive issue and you take me to gynecology, you..." mid-sentence, Chloe suddenly paused, a bold guess forming, "You suspect I’m pregnant?"
So that’s why he didn’t let her take medicine just now?
"It’s more prudent to check," Lucas replied, but his tone noticeably softened.
Chloe remained silent, her emotions in turmoil, not knowing how to respond to Lucas.
Luckily, the doctor called her in for an examination.
Chloe dashed in as if escaping.
The final result: not pregnant.
When Lucas collected the report, Chloe stood beside him and could clearly sense his relief.
"Relieved? Then I’ll leave now."
Chloe said, her tone somewhat flat.
Yet inside she felt extremely uncomfortable, not blaming Lucas, but blaming herself.
Blaming herself for being too impulsive, for acting without considering the consequences.
She bore the brunt of her impulsiveness, yet her heart still ached intensely.
As she was leaving, Lucas couldn’t help but speak, yet didn’t know how to continue.
Chloe waited for a moment, then finally left.
Lucas stood rooted, watching her back, feeling a lingering discomfort in his heart.
Between him and this girl... they were growing more distant.
