Zerra shook her head when she saw Laziel bringing Meira along. They were going to clean the villa, not going to a picnic.
In the end, it was him who was overwhelmed, protecting Meira while having to ward off the zombies coming from all directions the moment they opened the door.
Even if they didn’t want to get rid of the zombies, they had to. Darren and Lieutenant Colonel Dalton agreed it would be dangerous if the zombies escaped during the mutated animals’ attack.
If that happened, they had to face more enemies.
"Mr. Sylvaris, why don’t you let your girlfriend stay in the house? You can deal with the zombies more easily then." Someone couldn’t bear watching Laziel’s actions and finally spoke.
"That’s right. It’s not effective if you have to protect someone along," Arsen echoed.
In Laziel’s embrace, Meira gritted her teeth and lowered her head, not before sending Zerra a brief glare.
Zerra was bewildered. What was with this girl? She wasn’t the one who said those words! Meira also probably wouldn’t expect that Zerra would be so perceptive that she noticed her little action.
Laziel frowned. He really wanted to retort for them to mind their own business, but he refrained himself when he saw Zerra nearby.
"I’ll just treat it as training. Thanks for the suggestion," he muttered, making Meira stiffen slightly.
He was protecting her merely as training? Her face flushed, but Laziel didn’t see her expression. He was focused on exterminating zombies with his power.

For the past few days, they also had been dealing with the mutated animals without rest. Those things seemed endless that they marvelled at the mutated animals’ breeding ability. Too quick.
They couldn’t let them be just like that. Lieutenant Colonel Dalton planned to eradicate the mutated animals, fearing they would grow into a threat to the Capital next if they just let them be.
So, they would stay there until they eradicated all of them.
The team had evacuated the residents except for a few who insisted on staying. One of them being Mr. Wells.
"Be careful!" Someone shouted at Laziel, who turned around and used his long spear to stab the zombie’s heart.
Meira’s heart thumped, and she clutched Laziel’s arm tightly. He was her only protection. The situation just now finally made her realize how much danger they were currently in.
However, she also couldn’t bear to let go of the opportunity to ruin Nyra. She clenched her fists. This might be her only opportunity, and she couldn’t let go of it.
So, she had to bear her fear of the zombies, relying on Laziel.
An hour later, they finally finished. Of course, it was limited only to the front part. Other ability users had gone inside, searching the rooms.
"Azi... are you going inside?" Meira asked.
Zerra and her two tails were entering the villa. Laziel knitted his eyebrows together, a little fatigued. He had to expand a little more power to protect Meira, and it started to drain him.
He hesitated for a bit before he offered, "Do you want to stay at the safe place with Mr. Wells and others? The situation inside might be dangerous."
The zombies might jump out of nowhere, and every time they opened a room, it was unknown how many zombies would pour outside.
Meira’s face went pale. She quickly shook her head, clutching Laziel’s arm like an octopus. "No, no... I am scared. What if the person who had harmed Nyra went after me?"
Laziel let out an exhausted sigh. Now, he had no choice but to bring her along again.
Inside the villa, the scene was akin to a shipwreck. Broken things scattered everywhere, mixed with rotten chunks of flesh and nauseating smell of blood.
Meira scrunched her nose, forcing herself to hold on based on pure willpower. She held the urge to puke out all the contents in her stomach while her eyes searched for Nyra’s figure.
She found her figure, fighting side by side with Darren, looking out for each other.
Seeing Meira looking at the pair so thoughtfully, she wasn’t even aware of Zerra on the other side of the room inspecting her every action.
Zerra’s eyes shifted a little when she saw Laziel. There was a zombie coming for him from behind, yet he was unaware of it.
Gritting her teeth, she had no choice but to take action herself.
Laziel’s heart nearly lurched out of his chest when he saw the zombie’s little elongated nails a few inches away from his face. Just as he sensed danger, he was about to turn when he felt a breeze.
Then, he saw zombie nails and a familiar pitchfork. Both sights made him nearly break into a sweat.
"Thank you, Zee." He let out a breath as he watched the zombie twitch and fall down.
Zerra marched toward the zombie and pulled out her pitchfork. She let out a snort and wore a smug face before walking away.
Then, she stopped and turned around. "You will have your energy overdrawn if you don’t take a rest soon."
With that, she walked back into the battle.
Laziel pursed his lips. Indeed, he could feel his body begin to protest from too much energy consumption. He probably should find Mr. Adler soon.
Meira bit her lip, glaring at Zerra’s back. She wondered if this girl had said that deliberately?
However, seeing Laziel had a look of contemplation as if he was considering Zerra’s words, she was a little panicked. Her eyes searched for Nyra’s figure again.
Now, the girl was struggling to get up from the floor while Darren couldn’t reach her. He was besieged by a few zombies. Meira’s heart was full of anticipation.
She even hoped that the zombie lunging toward Nyra could solve her at once. Unfortunately, Nyra was truly tenacious. She managed to get up, drawing the zombie into another battle.
Until she saw it. A mutated animal disrupted Nyra’s attention — some kind of rat. Meira’s eyes widened. The rat bit Nyra’s hand she used to take the force of her fall. She had fallen down for the second time.
It was obvious Nyra was barely holding on.
Meira’s eyes widened when she saw the zombie drawing near to Nyra too. It clawed at her injured feet?
"Nyra, be careful! Don’t let the mutated rat and zombie bite you again!" She warned. She continued anxiously, "Can someone help her?"
