Just because the world was coming to an end didn’t mean that they had to forget even basic decency.
Bai Feng glanced at Lu Jingguo, who lowered his head and smiled sheepishly. "Sorry, boss, I meant no harm."
Lu Xinran, who stood behind her brother, raised her hand and waved at Bai Meiyue. "Sister Yueyue!"
Upon hearing the familiar voice, Bai Meiyue turned and looked at the woman who was standing next to Lu Jingguo and Bai Feng. When Bai Meiyue saw Bai Feng her heart clenched and a set of complicated feelings rose in her heart. Though she knew that if she wanted to take revenge against Bai Xue and the Bai family, she would have to kill Bai Feng, the obstacle to her goal, somewhere, she still felt a bit heavy.
Bai Feng was the only one who had cared for her when they were young and had treated her like a human being. Whatever Bai Xue had, Bai Feng made sure that Bai Meiyue would have it as well. He even told her that she needed to start eating well and not to listen to her agent, who was only teaching her bad things, but she was too adamant on making it big that she didn’t listen to what Bai Feng had said to her.
He was a good brother to her. Pity that he had to stand on the opposite side from her.
"Yueyue, there is something that I wanted to talk to you about."
Bai Meiyue snapped out of her thoughts and looked at the man in front of her with a hint of complexity in her gaze. Jiang Haidai, who was speaking to Bai Meiyue, turned around and walked inside the small kitchen, sensing the two siblings had something to discuss.
Once she was gone, Bai Meiyue turned and looked at the man in front of her. She suppressed her emotions and reminded herself that Bai Feng had made his choice, and even if he died in her hands, it would be the consequence of his actions. Anyway, with how selfish Bai Xue was, she knew that she wouldn’t even get a chance to kill Bai Feng; he would die in the hands of his beloved sister.
"What do you want to say to me?" She asked with a frown.
"Aunt Chu and Dad joined the base... Ah Xue has also become a worker in the base."
When Bai Meiyue heard his response, she arched her brow and questioned, "What are you doing? Why did you come here to tell me this? Don’t tell me that you expect me to go and save them?"
Bai Meiyue knew a lot about the current situation even though she had never gone outside. She heard from the nurses that the Bai family had long gone to the base; even Su Hu went with them. However, his condition was better than Bai Xue’s because he had already offered Xiang Mei to the base, but Bai Xue was still in the process. With Bai Feng working for the base but not joining it completely.
In fact, Bai Meiyue was surprised that Bai Feng had not agreed to work for the base.
"I am not here to ask for you to save them," said Bai Feng. he smiled coldly and thought of the good things that Bai Xue and the rest had done. They went to the base on their own two feet and even agreed to stay with them. They were the ones who made the decision; how could he save someone who didn’t want to be saved?
"Then what do you want to discuss with me?" Bai Meiyue tilted her head to one side and questioned.
Since he had already made his decisions, what was the point in discussing anything with Bai Meiyue? If he wanted to join the base, then he was free to do so. What was the point in saying anything to her?
"There is indeed something that I wanted to discuss with you." A strand of hair fell on his forehead as he stared at Bai Meiyue with a hint of anger in his eyes. Even though he didn’t show it on his face, it was clear that he was disappointed by the actions of the Bai family. "I wanted to ask you if you are willing to join hands with me? I have a channel that can allow you to bring in the supplies without handing in any shares to the base. If you are willing, then as long as you agree, I promise that we will monopolise the supplies and use them at will."
Though Bai Feng joined the Special Team, he never signed the documents. He clearly told Yu Miaomiao that at best he would work for her base and help her stretch her control and reign, and that was all he was going to do. Of course, his conditions came with harsh repercussions.
While others lived in apartments that were well-furnished and comfortable, they were given a small storage house to stay in, and the job that Bai Xue had was not well-paying either. Because of this, the Bai family was really dissatisfied with Bai Feng and wanted him to sign the document that would take Bai Feng’s freedom and control away.
They didn’t care about what kind of sufferings Bai Feng had to go through after he signed that paper. They only cared about what rewards they would get in return.
But how could Bai Feng sign that paper after knowing the true sufferings of the ability users who gave away their will and freedom to the base? Ever since he started working, Yu Miaomiao had been sending him and his team to collect supplies and crystal nuclei every day. She even arranged for new missions where she asked them to bring back a third-level zombie.
How were they supposed to bring a level three zombie alive? Did she even know how difficult was to even get close to that thing?
