As a Grey Knight In Naruto Chapter 84

The mist hung low in the trees along Konoha's northeastern border, thick enough to muffle footsteps, thin enough to hide a blade. The region near the Lightning Country frontier was always tense, but today, it was more than that.

Something stirred behind the fog.

Kakashi Hatake stood on a sloped ridge, one knee bent, his head tilted as if listening to the mountain breathe. His single eye was sharp and watchful. The Sharingan beneath his hitai-ate remained dormant, but ready. Below him, a squad of handpicked shinobi waited for orders.

Tenzo, masked and calm, melded with the trunk of a tree like bark grown from wood. His chakra pulsed quietly, ever-attuned to the forest around them.

Genma Shiranui knelt on a rock outcrop, senbon balanced between his teeth, golden eyes narrowed as he scanned the eastern valley.

Raido Namiashi crouched beside the trail, brushing ash from the soil where a small campfire had been, cold for only a few hours. Two ANBU with chakra-sensory masks covered the flanks, moving in silence.

Kakashi rose slowly. "We're close."

They'd been tracking for nearly four hours since Konoha's border patrol flagged irregular movement, a pattern too methodical for animals, too hidden for civilians.

"Two of them," Tenzo murmured. "Very light chakra signatures. Suppressed. Classic recon infiltration."

Raido stood, his armor creaking softly. "Hidden Cloud?"

"Almost certainly," Kakashi confirmed.

No insignia. No declared presence. Just a quiet trespass into Fire Country land.

And for now, no cause for a diplomatic incident.

Unless things turned bloody.

Near the Edge of the Ridge

Farther ahead, two Cloud shinobi darted between trees in carefully timed bursts, using mist, silence, and terrain like seasoned ghosts. They wore no headbands, no village sigils, just grey and navy uniforms marked with subtle storm-cloud embroidery.

One of them, a wiry kunoichi with braided hair, touched the bark of a tree, whispering, "They're moving fast downwind. Six signatures now."

Her partner, a broad-shouldered man with a tanto strapped to his back, narrowed his eyes. "They caught our trail?"

"Possibly. Still no visual."

The man grunted. "Should we retreat?"

"No," she said. "Orders were clear. Gauge their readiness. Map their positions. Do not engage unless we're certain we'll survive."

She paused. "And I'm not certain."

Moments Later — The Trap Closes

Kakashi's voice was barely audible as he gave the command.

"Now."

From every direction, Konoha shinobi surged forward, not with fanfare or smoke bombs, but as shadows breaking the treeline.

A wall of wooden spires erupted behind the Cloud ninja, Tenzo's Wood Release cutting off retreat.

Genma landed before them in a blur, senbon gleaming. "Tag, you're surrounded."

Raido moved from the side, hands already forming a binding seal.

And behind them, silent and impossible to track, Kakashi appeared, his presence like frost against the back of the neck. One eye locked on both targets. The Sharingan now active.

The kunoichi froze. "Copy Hatake…"

Kakashi spoke softly. "Take one more step, and you'll be returned in bandages. Or worse."

The male scout moved slightly, hand twitching.

Tenzo's voice echoed from the canopy. "Don't. There's ten more of us watching you."

A lie, but a convincing one.

The two Cloud shinobi glanced at each other. Silent nod.

Surrender.

They slowly raised their hands.

No Gloating, No Blood

"Bind them," Kakashi ordered.

Raido moved in, wrapping chakra-suppression seals around their wrists and ankles while Genma stepped back.

"They're clean. No sabotage tags," Genma reported after a swift pat-down.

The kunoichi spoke up. "We won't talk."

"We're not here to interrogate," Kakashi said evenly. "We're here to deliver a message."

The Cloud shinobi exchanged looks, confused.

Kakashi turned. "Tenzo. Escort team. We're returning them to the border."

Raido raised an eyebrow. "We're letting them go?"

"They're scouts," Kakashi said. "We send a stronger message with honor than fear."

Border Ridge – An Hour Later

On the edge of Lightning Country territory, where mist thinned into wind-swept cliffs, the two bound Cloud shinobi were released.

Tenzo cut their restraints.

Raido handed one of them a scroll. A simple one, no seals, no traps. Just ink.

The kunoichi unrolled it.

"The Leaf has not forgotten how to fight. If you test our patience again, you will not see our borders. You will see our wrath."

They said nothing.

They turned, retreating into the fog.

Kakashi stood beside a lone tree, watching them vanish. His arms were crossed. The wind caught his coat, fluttering it gently.

Genma approached him. "Think they'll report the truth?"

"They always do," Kakashi said. "Even when they lie."

He looked up, far overhead, dark clouds began to gather over the peaks. Thunder rumbled in the far distance.

"The storm's building," Kakashi murmured. "Let's hope the Raikage knows when to stop walking toward it."

He turned to his team.

"Let's head to the post first."
