Their opponents in the first exam were Mest and Panther Lily.
Panther Lily was strong, able to fight Gajeel evenly transformed. But his teammate was the traitor Mest.
Mest hadn’t come to take the exam, so he threw the fight. He practically ran into Drake’s fist, then flew away dramatically.
Panther Lily must have been speechless. He was there to help Mest pass, but Mest had surrendered, embarrassing him!
Wendy was sad because she hadn’t helped at all; Drake ended the fight before she could use any support magic.
Others might be happy to be dead weight, but Wendy was competitive! Drake had to coax her to cheer her up.
As they spoke, those who passed the first exam arrived.
Of the nine teams, Natsu and Happy met Gildarts, Juvia and Lisanna ran into Erza, and Elfman and Evergreen chose the path guarded by Mirajane.
Two of the three teams had passed, which was amazing.
They didn’t have to defeat the three S-class mages to pass. This was an exam, not an impossible trial.
Gildarts decided Natsu had the qualities of an S-class mage, so he let him pass.
During the fight, Gildarts taught Natsu what he lacked: facing his fears. So Natsu looked depressed.
Elfman and Evergreen used the fake news of their wedding to distract Mirajane, finding a chance to break through.
Erza, with her rigid personality, directly and mercilessly eliminated Juvia and Lisanna.
Of the remaining teams, Drake eliminated Mest. Cana and Lucy met Freed’s team. Freed, owing Lucy for what happened at the harvest festival, let them pass.
The last team to pass the first exam surprised Drake.
Levy & Gajeel VS Gray & Loki, the winners were Levy and Gajeel.
Gray was one of the strongest in the guild, and Loki, as the zodiac spirit leader, was strong even without a celestial mage.
Gajeel was strong, but Levy’s fighting power was lacking.
But seeing Gajeel’s injuries, he must have fought desperately. He would have fallen if they weren’t on Tenrou Island.

But Drake hadn’t expected him to make it part of the exam.
The others were excited. The exam aside, Makarov had said a dark guild was invading Tenrou Island.
The depressed Natsu jumped up. "Those damned dark guild members dare to mess with Fairy Tail! I’ll beat them up!"
The others were eager, ready to fight.
Makarov waved his hand, and a magic screen opened.
"Grimoire Heart, like the defeated Oración Seis, is part of the Balam Alliance. But their strength is greater, so don’t underestimate them.
And your exam is related to them."
Images appeared on the screen, and Makarov introduced them one by one.
"Grimoire Heart’s organization consists of a guild master, a vice-guild master, and seven high-ranking members called the Seven Kin of Purgatory. They are your targets.
Defeating each one earns different points. The guild master is worth one hundred points, the vice-guild master fifty, and each Kin of Purgatory thirty.
Teams can cooperate, but the points will be distributed based on contributions.
Two of the Seven Kin of Purgatory are our comrades. You can’t attack them.
To pass the exam, you must score over one hundred points."
Everyone started calculating. To pass, they had to defeat four or more of the Seven Kin of Purgatory alone.
Or take the vice-guild master and two Kin of Purgatory. They could also defeat the guild master alone, but that would be difficult.
Only five of the Seven Kin of Purgatory were available as targets, meaning only three teams could pass, including the guild master’s points.
To get enough points, they had to plan carefully.
